elementary usage clamping
...he world has obviously passed me by! I have a server in a colocation facility, and I was recently hit by a bill for overage; I used more bandwidth than I expected, and I must pay. So now, I want to bother with packet shaping on the server. The *most* important thing is to clamp bandwidth to the 1Mbps that my contract allows for. This is well within my ordinary usage; there is no reason for me to want more. But I must be careful about overage: when I am transferring large amounts of data, I don''t mind waiting for how long it takes at 1Mbps (minus overhead), but I certainly don'...

Do Both! :) Re: Telecom SIP termination vs. DS3
...Digium DS3 card either every 30 - 60 days throughout the remainder of this year. Adding Calling Card sales rep's = placing a Elephant/HOG in front of a Highbandwidth pipe!!! WindyCitySDR's situation is such that every 1 Calling Card Sales rep. I add = 28 T-1s. 68 concurrent callers is 1Mbps CONISISTANT BANDWIDTH. And you dont want to know what a startup pays per 1Mbps! ALOT OF $$$$$$$$$!! A Digium DS3 card saves the lives of Calling Card infrastructure providers such as myself. (THANK GOD!!!) So, in my humble opinion, doing both the sip termination NOW, to get that $$$ together for...

Don't deprecate TCPOnly please!
...reason for using TCP, even though UDP will actually form a working connection. Anyone on Comcast's "small business" service is forced to use an SMC cable modem/router. Its NAT implementation is capable of letting tinc's UDP tunnels work fine, but they limit a single UDP stream to 1mbps. I've confirmed with some techies at Comcast that this is by design. The only workaround for us to get a fast tunnel is to switch to TCP. I'm totally happy with the option being not recommended for most users, but I'd like to ask that it not be completely removed in future versions....

Virtual PBX (*)
Hi, I have received some replies for my previous mail (* configuration), asking for my goals in configuring Asterisk. So here they are: We are planning to host an Inter continental virtual PBX service that will enable our users to register for an account which give them a toll-free # or a DID. Once registered using a web based interface, that user can add as manay extensions he/she wants

XCP bandwidth management
...o just set some sort of shaping on the physical interface itself, but I really don''t know the best way to go about it. Things I''ve found so far aren''t so good: 1 - Limit the interface using the XenCenter GUI... but that means the VM would never be able to go above about 1mbps, even if it''s sat there and used no bandwidth for the past week and is well within its quota, so that''s not ideal. 2 - Use sFlow in XCP to capture the data. Well this works for looking at how much bandwidth they are using, but I haven''t found any existing tool that will...

Traffic Priority by IP address..
Hi, I have a PC that acts as a VoIP gateway using an internet telephony provider to make phone calls.. Data between me and the provider will always be from one IP address on my internal network to the provider.. I have a 1Mbps/256Kbps ADSL line and the voice stream is highly compressed requireing only 30Kbps of bandwidth.. The problem is that when my Mozilla Mail client polls for mail or someone else on the network (only 3 PC''s) opens a web page it causes the voice to stutter similar to a bad cell phone sign...

QoS in wireless networks
...ee a problem with HTB in wireless networks: sometimes the available bandwith fluctuates due to interferences, retransmissions, etc, and then I don''t know if HTB fits well for that. ¿What is the real effect of sharing 5Mbps among traffic classes with HTB if the real bandwith dropped to 1Mbps? ¿Is CBQ better for these cases where the bandwith to share is not stable? Thanks in advance Javier _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://mailman.ds9a.nl/mailman/listinfo/lartc HOWTO: http://lartc.org/

load balancing between two dsl links
Hi, I am connected to two DSL providers (DSL 1 - 1Mbps downlink/384kbps uplink and DSL 2 - 2Mbps downlink/512kpbs uplink) I would like to only allow ftp, pop3 and http via the DSL 1 and only smtp, ipsec and pptp via DSL 2. How can I do so? Can I use iproute to route these protocols? Below is my ip routing: - # DSL 1 ip route add 2.2.2.208/30 dev...

TC in Wireless Environment
Hi, Has anyone used TC in a wireless environment, which is dynamic. I understand that the parameters for queuing are static and cannot be changed unless the queuing discipline is deleted and reloaded with different parameters. If anyone can share any experience, that would be helpful. Thanx. Azim. _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl

dynamic bwlimit with rsync
...l for it? Our pipe is limited and we don't want to give everything to rsync, We have situation where we want rsync transfers to scale up or down within a specified bandwidth limit. For e.g. if there are two (or multiple) rsyncs running parallel they should be contained in max bwlimit (say like 1Mbps) and if there is only one running it should use the entire allocated bandwidth limit. HTB Troubleshooting
...ly a silly problem as a result of lack of understanding here, but I''m having some trouble with a supposedly simple shaping script here. I have a bunch of IPs on an interface tun0 (VPN clients) which I''m trying to rate limit to 5Mbps default, and then set externally by a script to 1Mbps or 10Mbps. All traffic goes out of eth0 from the clients - no routeback. Shaping doesn''t seem to be working correctly (user''s upload is ~250KB/sec + when it''s meant to be rate limited to 1Mbps - ip ending .6 - the corresponding class id is 1:6 in the below/attached logs...

Cisco VoIP QOS
I have currently following the instructions at- http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/QoS+Cisco I am using a Cisco 877 router with an ADSL2+ connection. My upstream bandwidth is around 1Mbps, and my downstream around 4-5Mbps. I have two PSTN side interfaces - atm0 and dialer0 (dialer0 is where the ISP details are configured and the interface that the WAN side IP is applied on) Now which interface to I apply the QOS on? I would have thought dialer0, but for some reason this interfac...

Shaping traffic with high priority hosts
...nt setup is the following: Normal Hosts --------+ eth0 eth1 | +----------+ +-<->| F/W box |--<-> Internet | +----------+ High priority hosts--+ My eth0 is a normal 100MBps LAN and my Internet connection is a 1Mbps ADSL line. What I want to achieve is to have normal hosts to share a big part of the internet connection (say 700-800KBps) and have my bosses (the High priority hosts) to ''feel'' a snappy internet access WHEN they actually decide to use the internet. The ideal situation will be to...

HTB root rate allowing to much of a burst
...cburst settings. I am using default calculations now, on all classes. Is there a formula to use in tweaking these values? I would like my rates to follow the assigned rate more closely. I am generating traffic with a hardware traffic generator. Starting at 300 kbps stepping by 100 kbps up to 1mbps. Each step lasts for 60 sec. My config script is attached. Thanks. Helix into Icecast2 loopback
...the latest RedHat... something about __pure_virtual being an undefined symbol...?? Regarding Helix, I am using a Real server not the Helix Community open source version. The real version is incredibly easy to install and administrate and you can pick up a free working version with a stream cap at 1mbps from the realnetworks website. I haven't got around to compiling the open source version but from what I've heard it is efficient and worth looking into. wrr question
Guys All the recent discussions recently, and the knowledge of a 2.6 port, of WRR has made me very keen on trying it. I had a look at the docs and examples know but my mind is not in a very receptive state. Take this simple example. Incoming internet connection of 1mbps. Shared between up to 25 users simultaneously. I know that WRR can fairly distribute the traffic amongst the currently connected clients at any specific time. I''d like to know how can I restrict any client from getting more than 256kbps (or 25%) of the total link speed, even when they are...
