Userdb and home directories
...ccessible
because the other filer is out of action.
We use shadow for the passdb and passwd for the userdb (see dovecot -
n output below). I'm trying to work out how to override the home
directory returned from NIS. Ultimately I'd like to use this template:
/mailstore/control/%1Ln/%Ln/home
but for the time being while I'm trying to work out how to do it have
my own area hard-coded in (as it's only me logging in to the test
system):
/mailstore/control/p/pmb1/home
I'm specifying this with the "args" directive in the userdb section
as follows...

suggests it does.
The URL quotes:

Authentication with AD and quick mbox question
Hi,
I'm attempting to implement Dovecot 2.1.3 built on a FreeBSD 8.2 64
bit system from ports.
I had the servicve up and running on a local vbox demo which did a
very simple Maildir format sytem which was situated in ~/Maildir.
I would now like to expand the system and tie it to a Windows domain.
What is the best way to go about doing this?
Can Dovecot be directly tied in or do I need to

NFS performance and 1.1.3 - what can you (unofficially) get away with?
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with bending the NFS recommendations to get
better performance?
The question is has anyone, with Maildir and the INDEX= on NFS (i.e.
dovecot.index and dovecot.index.cache, set mail_nfs_index to no. If so,
was it better to turn maildir_copy_preserve_filename to on or did it
help to turn if off. The other question is did you play with turning off

Hi,
Up until yesterday, our environment which consists an NFS maildir file
store with multiple front end servers, was working fine. We've verified
that the server clocks and machines clocks are in sync.
Starting yesterday afternoon, We are getting ~850 log entries of the
form 'Timeout while waiting for lock for transaction log files' or 'Our

Hello Noel,
this sounds interesting. Can you please elaborate why you think this is no
good idea for IMAP?

kinit Administrator work well also.
Some steps of the configuration in dovecot.conf does not recognize:
1) "protocols = imap imaps pop3 pop3s".
2) "mechanisms = plain ntlm login".
3) "allow_all_users=yes" y
"mail=maildir:/home/vmail/%d/%1Ln/%Ln:INBOX=/home/vmail/%d/%1Ln/%Ln".
I'm not sure I should put in place.
I also have some doubts:
1) I have to create a keytab file containing the principal for
imap and pop?, as it would indicate Dovecot?.
2) That should indicate values uid y el gid?

global r/w privilege.
I did not specify the static userdb since these users are configued in
/etc/passwd and I thought that would work; example given in link (could that be
an issue?):
userdb static {

mail=maildir:/home/vmail/%d/%1Ln/%Ln:INBOX=/home/vmail/%d/%1Ln/%Ln

This didn't work. Also, existing, working Outlook connections using 'logon'
(i.e. the userID and PW are configured in Outlook) stopped working.
I changed a test Outlook client to check t...

Unless I missed something in a previous pst, "~/.mail" is not typical
