ferret acts_as_ferret and performance
hello,
I am actually indexing thousands of 1ko text documents using ferret and
acts_as_ferret, and i face performance problems.
I takes me hours to index 20 000 1ko text documents.
Methology used :
I create and object, fulfill it with the text, and save it. So it is
automaticly indexed.
Is there a way to make it faster ? ( remove the auto op...

NHW Project - major quality improvement for -l1->-l4 settings
Hello,
With -l5 quality setting, I have learned that I can increase wavelet coeff
threshold to 12 in the HH band without noticeable difference in the
reconstructed images.With this processing, I win in average 1Ko in the
compressed .nhw files, and so I can raise the quantization for -l1->-l4
settings (0.935->0.955,0.88->0.9,0.87->0.89) and so these settings are now
better, there is a little less neatness/sharpness but there is more
precision, and so these settings are quite competitive.The .nhw f...

NHW Project - quality improvement - proper subband quantization
Hello,
I have improved quality for -l1->-l4 settings.I have properly set up the
wavelet coeff threshold of the dead-zone according to the different wavelet
subbands, I have then saved another 1Ko per .nhw files without noticeable
difference and so I have raised again the quantization.The reconstructed
images have now a better precision and still a good neatness.

Else I realize that JPEG XR (2009) and WebP (2011) are quite good codecs,

NHW Project - very high compression settings

kidding, you can test it by yourself and make your own opinion.I would be
really very interested in any opinion on the NHW Project at high
compression.
Also, yes that's right, I think we can save 2KB in average per .nhw
compressed file.I know how to save 1Ko on the wavelet DC image compression,
I have explained it on the Theora forum in February 2015, iirc.To give an
update, we can do smarter DC image splitting into different size blocks and
give each block an appropriate coding mode (I have defined 4 modes for now,

NHW Image codec - lower quality settings
Hello,
Just a quick message, I have improved the -l3 lower quality setting.I have
increased the quantization to 0.8 and decrease a little the denoising, and
so to save 1Ko in average, I have added a 8x8 block variance
analysis.Blocks that have a low variance are averaged to save bits.The -l3
lower quality setting is a little better now.
For the -h3 higher quality setting, yes for now I do not compress a small
data packet (but same compression scheme as for the other...

NHW Image codec - higher quality settings
Hello,
Just a very quick message to let you know that I have added a higher
quality setting (-h2, +10Ko) and I have added now residual coding on the
512x256 wavelet image for the higher settings.Precision is a little
better.-I also still apply the post-processing function on the 512x256
wavelet image for now.-
