rdma or tcp?
Is there a document with some guidelines for setting up bricks with tcp or rdma transport? I'm looking at a new deployment where the storage cluster hosts connect via 10GigE, but clients are on 1GigE. Over time, there will be 10GigE clients, but the majority will remain on 1GigE. In this setup, should the storage bricks use tcp or rdma? If tcp is the better choice, and at some point in the future all clients are 10GigE, should the bricks be rebuilt with rdma? Are there any downsides to using...

Slow network
Hi, I have problem with a Centos 5.3 computer. The networking is very slow. The networking card is a RealTek 1GigE. I plugged an Ubuntu laptop on the same cable and port with an Intel GigE, and it's about 8 to 10 times faster. So the problem is likely to be with the CentOS config. Any suggestion on how to track down the problem with speed. I have checked the packets with wireshark, no problem. Here'...

NIC interrupts and packets per second ratio, how to calculate? There must be some way...
Hello again guys, Iam trying to asses the best hardware for a machine that procceses a high number of packets per second on its NIC. THe only way I can achieve this without guesses is If iam able to understand or test what the number of interrupts available per core and how to translate that to PPS capabilities. So far ive been testing an Core I5 CPU and was able to achieve up to 400k

Running dtrace sript for defined period of time?
Hello, I''m building some simple monitoring tools to watch zfs storage servers. Is this possible to run dtrace script for example 10 seconds? (Of course it is, I just trying to figure out how). Right know it has to be stopped by "CTRL-C" I''m particulary interested in scripts like iscsiio.d, iscsiwho.d from

ocfs2 crash on intensive disk write
Hi, I'm getting system (and eventually cluster) crashes on intensive disk writes in ubuntu server 10.04 with my OCFS2 file system. I have an iSER (infiniband) backed shared disk array with OCFS2 on it. There are 6 nodes in the cluster, and the heartbeat interface is over a regular 1GigE connection. Originally, the problem presented itself while I was doing performance testing and it's been reproducible ever since. Running something like 'dd if=/dev/zero of=/<ocfs2 array>/zeroes bs=64k count=100000' kills the node almost immediately, and then subsequently hang...

Re: CentOS Digest, Vol 38, Issue 15
...l retrying, it would soon lock up again, repeat etc. Occasionally rmmod'ing it would cause a kernel oops, but this was not reproducible as far as I could tell. If the transfers were killed, the machine generally recovers. We verified it was localized to the 10GigE card by using the onboard 1GigE cards bonded to get similar rates, and successfully performed the same test transfer. Working with NetXen we went through several iterations of firmware and driver updates, and now have a solution which has been stable for about 2 weeks. The kernel module we are using has not yet been release...
