OT: 1gigabit Nics
Begging indulgence of the list - asking here because due to the higher likelyhood of getting an answer... I have an application that often loses connection from one machine to another when one (or more) of the machines has particular brands of 1gig nics, but which runs rock solid when on 10meg nics and some 1 gig nics. The application senses (falsely) that the connection has been shut down by the opposite end. It uses only TCP/IP, single socket at either end for alternate transmit/receive. Loss of connection happens when the socket is...

centos 5.1 i386 on a 1GIG flash
I have found this link http://owlriver.com/tips/tiny-centos for installing centos on a minimal system. I am looking at putting centos on a 1 GIG flash drive. The above page talks about removing packages after install to attain the small size. however, I am getting blocked at the install page about not enough room to install. All I have selected is the base package. nothing else. Is there a way

Problem installing Centos on laptop
Hi, I have been trying to install Centos 4.4 on my laptop with no success. I have just purchased a new Acer 5100 laptop with AMD Turion 64x2 1Gig ram 120Gig HD. I have tried the 64bit and the 32 bit versions but have the same problem with both of them. I can do the complete install but when the computer reboot it will hang on the hardware detection on the network right after where it says Centos 4.4 final. I have let it sit for about 20...

requesting real world meetme capacity numbers
Hi All, I'm very interested in real world experience of double digit number of users sustaining good quality audio in a single meetme conference. Personally, I have seen 23 users in one conf room, all coming in SIP, ULAW. Server is 3.2GHz proc, 1Gig RAM, 1-2 % proc utilization under 23 user load, perfect audio. I'm working on a conf bridge for 150+ users, could use some advice, if anyone has accomplished such a feat or has any ideas on how. Thanks. JR -- JR Richardson Engineering for the Masses

File growth behavior of Mac OS X and WinXP
Hello List, I've searched the internet and I haven't been able to figure this out. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I have a MacOSX 10.3 machine and a WinXP machine that are being used to produce large video clips (@1gig). After they are rendered and ready for playback, they are copied to the playout machines using a system that uses watch folders shared out over samba. The watch folder works based on file size. For example, 40 seconds after a file's filesize stops growing, the system assumes the file is com...

General Server Hardware Question
Hey List, How do people measure how many listeners they can have on a single NIC card? A 1Gig Ethernet NIC card maybe able in terms of bandwidth to serve 31,250 listeners at 32Kbps (not including overheads etc, just a flat calculation) but there is no way the NIC card its self could handle 31k concurrent connections to 31k different IPs on 31K ports? (Obviously the OS comes into play here a...

sessions failing on debian apache2 fast_cgi
Hi All, So I just pushed our rails app to our production server, but I''ve encountered a number of problems. Firstly the fast_cgi processes seem to be eating up a hell of a lot of memory, at times max out our 1gig of RAM. I''ve switched back to cgi for the moment, but independently of that sessions seem to be failing intermitently. The session will hold itself stable for a while, so the user can perform a few actions, but then the session is expired - at least I can see that the session id changes....

R-crash using read.shape (maptools)
Hi List, I am trying to read a large shapefile (~37,000 polys) using read.shape [winxp, 1gig ram, dellbox). I receive the following error: AppName: rgui.exe AppVer: 1.90.30412.0 ModName: maptools.dll ModVer: 1.90.30412.0 Offset: 0000309d The getinfo.shape returns info, and the shapefile is readable in arcmap. Any ideas on how to overcome this? Thanks Herry ------------------------...

Problem with Dell Poweredge 1850
...seem to be experiencing the same problem that Michal Urbanski talked about in an email dated March 24th with a subject of "hanging dell hardware". Looking through the archives I can not find any resolution to the problem. The specs on my machine are Dell Poweredge 1850 Dual Xeon 2.8s 1gig ram PERC 4e/SI raid controller in mirror configuration with 2 73 gb drives (uses the megaraid_mm/megaraid_mbox modules) Any time the system is placed under high IO ( for example untar/bz2ing a tarball to create the fs for a xenU partiton) the machine hangs. There are no kernel messages. The consol...

I20 Drivers Crash system when used with Rsync
...lem withe I20 drivers or Rsync so I'm submitting to both the Kernel Bugzilla and the Rsync mailing list. I couldn't find a bugzilla for Rsync. I hope this was the correct way to submit this issue. Distribution: Debian Hardware Environment: Intel 850MV Mother board, Pentium 4 processor, 1Gig of RAM, Adaptec 2400A RAID Controler. Both the motherboard and Controller card have the most recent BIOS/firmware installed. The Adaptec card is capable of RAID configuration but currently it is configured to view each of the attached IDE drives as individual drives. None of the cards RAID feat...

Odd Question... MAX Ram Disk Size
...file (base build). I want to put that image file on a RAMDISK on my server. The image file is between 3 and 4 gig. I have 6 gig in the server, so plenty of memory. I modified GRUB to increase the size of my ram disk... First I started with a 200mb, that worked group, formatted, etc. Then I tried 1gig - everything looks like it works but when I mount it, it tells me the volume is not formatted or has invalid super blocks. Perhaps I'm exceeding the allowable built-in ramdisk limit, but I couldn't find any docs anywhere that would tell me what that limit was. Does anyone know of an alter...

CentOS 6.4 x86_64 VM Install freezes
I am trying to install a CentOS 6.4 x86_64 VM using a CentOS 5.9 x86_64 host, but its install has froze *twice*. What I am doing is to create a 10gig LVM volume, which I put a MS-DOS partition table on (using fdisk). I then format the only partition to ext3, install grub and install the pxeboot kernel and initrd.img and a simple grub.conf to load this. I have the CentOS 6.4 x86_64 ISOs mounted
