No increased throughput with SMB Multichannel and two NICs
Hello, I'm running Samba 4.4.5 with enabled SMB Multichannel. The Linux server has two 1GBit/s NICs and for testing purposes I've shared a tmpfs mountpoint with 2GiB and ~2GiB large test-file. My Windows 10 host has one dual-port 1GBit/s NIC, and if both interfaces are enabled, Get-SmbMultichannelConnection lists active multichannel connections to my Linux SMB server. If I disable on...

slow throughput on 1gbit lan
Hello, I'm trying to squeeze out maximum possible transfer between two Samba 3.3.1 servers. Both servers and switch supports jumbo frames, network link and disks does not appear to be bottleneck, between these two servers FTP transfer rates are about 115MB/s (1gbit link is saturated at this point) - and I'd like to see similar transfer from Samba (now I get half of it). 10.0.0.5 # wget ftp://10.0.0.2/1G 100%[=================================================================================================================>] 1,048,576,000 118M/s in 8....

How to use mbuffer with zfs send/recv
>> How do i compile mbuffer for our system, Thanks to Mike Futerko for help with the compile, i now have it installed OK. >> and what syntax to i use to invoke it within the zfs send recv? Still looking for answers to this one? Any example syntax, gotchas etc would be much appreciated. -- Kind regards, Jules free. open. honest. love. kindness. generosity. energy. frenetic.

Large Files vs. Speed
...i'm pretty sure my Problem is pretty common, so please point me to the FM, if there is any (i couldn't find it searching the list archives and google) here's the deal: i've a Linux Box as a Server for a small VideoEditing 3D Company. The Server and Workstations are connected over 1GBit Ethernet. The Linuxserver runs Suse (9.2 if i'm not mistaken). The Shares in question are on two IDE Disks. Problem: The overall Speed of the System, esp. under a bit more Load, is way below the Windows System that was on the box before. Writting Two Files with about 300 MB each takes up to 2...

Xen + IPv6 + Netapp = NFS read problem
...ewer kernel, newer xen, newer nfs commons etc) One of virtual servers is a backup server which has mounted a big nfs share from Netapp. It copied changed data on Netapp''s share (we use also excellent Netapp''s snapshot technology to keep older versions data). Our network is mixed 1GBit/10GBit ethernet with junper switch as a central point of network. Internally we use IPv6 protocol. The problem is the following: THE READ PERFORMANCE OF BACKUP SERVER IS DRAMATICALLy LOW: TYPICAL SEQUENTIAL READ FROM NETAPP SHARE FALLS DOWN TO 5-10MBytes/s !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the other han...

OCFS2 strage freezes
...example, - both nodes "freeze" for about 15-20 seconds, both operations just stops for a while, and then copying continues on first node, while second one gets directory listing. I have no errors on both nodes, neither iSCSI ones, no ocfs2. All three servers are joined together using 1Gbit/sec network switch and there's no other machines on that switch. If you need any information, please feel free to ask me about it. Thanks in advance!

10Gbit ethernet
...eck, and it's going to get worse as we add another 112 CPUs in the form of two blade servers. To help things breath better, we are considering building three new NFS servers, and connecting these and the blade servers directly via 10Gbit to a new core switch, the older nodes will stay with 1Gbit ethernet, but be given new switches uplinked via 10Gbit to the core switch. Before I spend a great deal of money, can I ask if anyone here has experience of 10GBit? Dell, HP, Supermicro, IBM (etc..) seem to be pushing the NetXen PCIe cards, so I guess these drivers work...? As to media, althoug...

relocation time about 20sec? and yours?
Hi List, i have running xen-3.0.2 and my migration time for DomU from Server A to Server B is about 20sec. The Servers A and B are connected over 1GBit/s Links and the storrage is connected via iSCSI. The iSCSI volumes have a performance about 20-40MByte/s. Servers A is a 2x2GHz Xeon with 4GB Ram and Server B is a 1.8GHz AMD with 2GB Ram. The documentation states about some 60-300msec, so my qestion is: How long takes it on your Servers to migra...

OK, very strange. But at least you can now add in the things I told you to remove one by one to see which one I was wrong about :-). Don't keep adding, add one - then remove and add another until we discover which makes the difference (if it's indeed one, which...

suggestions for a "fast" fileserver - 1G / 10G
...really close to GBit speed on reads or writes. Using the same servers/storages with ftp, ssh, rsync, nfs we are on the max. of GBit or with the 10Gbit Storage/server on the max of the storage we currently own. (about 400MB/s) E.g. from my Mac Pro I get smb r/w +- 40MB/s, with ftp I get 90MB/s on a 1Gbit Server. So I try to eliminate some bottle necks. But where are they? I know there are some protocol overheads etc. comparing smb and e.g. ftp. So what kind of setup serverside may get better performance? What kind of Hardware are you using? Faster NICs (usually I have INTEL ones) faster cpu? Di...

Samba 4 fileserver perfomance
Hello, Am 03.05.2015 um 17:38 schrieb ????????? ????????: > Thank you for your time. What network did you test it? > 100Mb or 1000Mb? I'm using 1Gbit here at home. With a 100Mbit connection it wouldn't be possible to reach transfer rates of 110MB/Sec. A realistic good transfer rate for a 100Mbit connection is just around 11 MB/Sec. Regards, Marc

system shutdown - turning off quotas takes a long time
Hi, recently I had to instal a new raid storage system for our central fileserver. It is connected by iscsi (1Gbit) and the fielsystems mounted are 400GB and 1TB and ext3. curretly about 400 GB are used by 1.5 Mio files. I turned quota on and did a quota check. BUT on reboot the system crashes/hangs during 'turning off quotas' This message shows up about 30++ sec after the shutdown ... Any idea? Hin...

suggestions for CentOS
...for this centos 3, and in fact this seems to be a very good distribution.. too sad.. Probably that finding a way to access the mailing list archive through a search for non-subscribers would help a lot new users, and motivate them. I also had contact with the switch.ch mirror site of Switzerland (1Gbit/s), and they would be ready to mirror your distribution if it would become more known. So there should not be any bandwidth problems, and I wish that CentOS 3 will become known from the others. It's so strange, nobody knows about it.. A better documentation on your site would perhaps also help...
