getting the normal dist from the chisqr with 1df
l used the following code to generate a sample and then calculated then did a log rank test.can l get the normal version of the logrank eg sqrt of the chisqr(1) will give you the N~(0,1). from my sample can i use the above expression to get the normal dist from the result of the log rank test. thank s=1 while(s!=0){ n=100 m<-matrix(nrow=n,ncol=4)

Tukey's one degree of freedom for nonadditivity?
Is there code available to decompose interactions involving at least one nominal factor with more than 2 levels as described, e.g., by Tukey or by Mandel (1971, Technometrics, 13: 1-18)? Tukey's model: E(y[i,j]) = mu0 + a[i] + b[j] + c*a[i]*b[j], estimating a, b, and c so sum(a) = sum(b)= 0. Mandel essentially describes a singular value decomposition of the interaction. Thanks,

split plot design with missing plots
Windows 2000 . 5.00.2195 with Service Pack 1. R 1.5.1 Output from my split-split plot aov "alerted" me that I have done something wrong. I designed an experiment with all combinations of all levels of each treatment, but lost a little data (3 out of 192 plots). With the following data, I run the following model: > collim[c(1:6,187:192),c(1,3:6,9)] plot Litter Fert

ANCOVA in S-plus/R?
Dear R user: I have a question about doing ANCOVA in S-plus or R. I know that many users use lm to do the regression and check the ANCOVA. But is there a way to get the traditional Table form of the ANCOVA test through S-plus (like what we would get from SPSS or SAS)? The problem I’m interested in is whether or not there is a treatment effect on some medical measurement. I will

coxme frailty model standard errors?
Hello, I am running R 2.6.1 on windows xp I am trying to fit a cox proportional hazard model with a shared Gaussian frailty term using coxme My model is specified as: nofit1<-coxme(Surv(Age,cen1new)~ Sex+bo2+bo3,random=~1|isl,data=mydat) With x1-x3 being dummy variables, and isl being the community level variable with 4 levels. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the standard error

R memory and CPU requirements
Thanks for all the help on my previous questions. One more (hopefully last one) : I've been very surprised when I tried to fit a model (using aov()) for a sample of size 200 and 10 variables and their interactions. It turns out that even 2GB of RAM is not anough for aov() with this sample size, which does not seem so big for me. Am I doing something wrong or this is considered a normal
