File Upload problem when file is small, under 19k(read method returns nothing)
Hi I hope someone can shed some light on this have searched a lot but found nothing definite. This happens on Ubuntu and Fedora 2. I am having a problem with uploading small files (images gif or jpeg under 19k). According to ruby documentation these are stored temporarily as StringIO objects rather than temporary files (as is done with the larger file uploads). The problem is that when it is a StringIO rather than a temporary file nothing is returned from the read method. example code where "i...

separate home "partition"?
(i use the term loosely because i know that zfs likes whole volumes better) when installing ubuntu, i got in the habit of using a separate partition for my home directory so that my data and gnome settings would all remain intact when i reinstalled or upgraded. i''m running osol 2008.11 on an ultra 20, which has only two drives. i''ve got all my data located in my home directory,

compress and max upload size?
I am using mongrel_cluster with mod_proxy_balancer and would like to enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput) and limit file size upload. I configured mod_deflate and LimitRequestSize in Apache, but in my trials looks like the proxied calls bypass those directives (the conf goes below). Is there a way to get this? -- fxn # Adapt this .example locally, as usual. # # To be

sub-optimal ZFS performance
Hello, ZFS is behaving strange on a OSOL laptop, your thoughts are welcome. I am running OSOL on my laptop, currently b124 and i found that the performance of ZFS is not optimal in all situations. If i check the how much space the package cache for pkg(1) uses, it takes a bit longer on this host than on comparable machine to which i transferred all the data. user at host:/var/pkg$ time

Rsync / SSH / Cygwin .. permission problems..
I am attempting to use rsync to "mirror" data between several windows 2000 and windows XP systems. I am a UNIX person by nature, so decided the easiest way to go about doing this would be to use Cygwin with cron and ssh running as services, then run the rsync connection nightly through cron. Cygwin is installed on both systems and works perfectly. OpenSSH is installed and running,

ZFS Space Map optimalization
I have a huge problem with space maps on thumper. Space maps takes over 3GB and write operations generates massive read operations. Before every spa sync phase zfs reads space maps from disk. I decided to turn on compression for pool ( only for pool, not filesystems ) and it helps. Now space maps, intent log, spa history are compressed. Not I''m thinking about disabling checksums. All

Problem w/ b95 + ZFS (version 11) - seeing fair number of errors on multiple machines
Hi, After upgrading to b95 of OSOL/Indiana, and doing a ZFS upgrade to the newer revision, all arrays I have using ZFS mirroring are displaying errors. This started happening immediately after ZFS upgrades. Here is an example: ormandj at neutron.corenode.com:~$ zpool status pool: rpool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was

Upload problem when file is small/StringIO (read method return nothing)
...gIO objects rather than temporary files as with the larger file uploads. The problem is that when it is a StringIO rather than a temporary file nothing is returned from the read method. example code where "image" is the file upload form parameter, it works fine if image is over round 19k but is it is smaller then image.read returns nothing however the image.size and image.original_filename return the correct information.
