dev2eps() prints ticks with wrong length! (PR#1933)
Hello R experts!
I've tried to make single plot, but with changed ticks length,
and then copy them to file by dev.copy2eps(). Here is the code:
x11 ( , 5, 5)
par (tcl = +5)
plot (0) # that's ugly plot with great ticks
# on the graph viewport. cool :)
dev.copy2eps (file = "out.eps")
Hm.. I had a look at "out.ps" and wondered

Changing date format
Dear All,
How can I change the format of date of day of the year ? for example r
(i.e. "17 Apr" rather than "108").
The following is the type of the dataset I have
head(Samaru)
Year Start End Length
1 1930 108 288 180
2 1931 118 288 170
3 1932 115 295 180
4 1933 156 294 138
5 1934 116 291 175
6 1935 134 288 154
Any idea is welcome. Thanks!!!
Cheers.

Most of the tools we had 30 years ago in computers are like working on
a Model T era vehicle. They allowed for a lot of configuration choices
and fine tuning but they also were limited vastly in other ways. You
can't run a fleet of 1000 Model TT trucks made in 1923 as well as you
could 1000 1933 trucks. You ended up losing some of the knowledge of
hand-crafting your own gears but you got the ability to go faster,
carry heavier loads and better gas mileage without working as hard at
getting a mile out of a quart.
The transmissions of the 1933 were considered 'automatic' compared to...

Regression in strptime
This is definitely obscure but we had a unit test that called
.Internal(strptime, "1942/01/01", %Y/%m/%d") with timezone (TZ) set to
CET. In R-3.1.3 that returned "1942-01-01 CEST" which, paradoxically, is
correct as they evidently did strange things in Germany during the war
period. Java also returns the same. However, R-3.2.4 returns "1942-01-01
CET".

Checking for invalid dates: Code works but needs improvement
...out the incorrect dates but doesn't indicate which date variable they belong to. I tried various things with paste but never came up with anything that worked. Ideally, I'd like to get something that looks roughly like:
Error: Invalid date values in birthDT
"21931-11-23"
"1933-06-31"
Error: Invalid date values in diagnosisDT
"2010-02-30"
4. There's no way to specify names for input and output data. I imagine this would be fairly easy to specify this in the arguments to a function but am not sure how to incorporate it into a for loop.
Thanks,
Paul...

type III effect from glm()
Hi all,
This could be naivety/stupidity on my part rather than a problem with model output, but here goes....
I have fitted a fairly simple model
m1<-glm(count~siteall+yrs+yrs:district,family=quasipoisson,weights=weight,data=m[x[[i]],])
I want to know if yrs (a continuous variable) has a significant unique effect in the model, so I fit a simplified model with the main effect ommitted...
