celtclient 64kbps more than expected
...udo header. Using vnstat I was very surprised to see that it was reporting a bitrate usage of around 16kbyte/sec which is 128kbit/sec, double what I was expecting. I then changed packet size to 86 which I expected should give a bitrate of 128kbit/sec, vnstat said I was using 24kbyte/sec which is 192kbit/sec I then changed packet size to 128, I expected to see a bitrate of 192kbit/sec, vnstat gave me a bitrate of 32kbyte/sec which is 256kbit/sec Therefore all measurements were 64kbit/sec greater than I anticipated, can somebody tell me why, or I have got something wrong here? thank you, Paul.

EAC + FLAC bitrate question?
...al Compression" page, I noticed the bitrate selection window directly beneath the compression setting string window. Does the FLAC string window entry cause the bitrate window to be ignored? I am desperately hoping that the over 1000 CDs I own and have already processed (myself) are not in 192kBit/s FLAC, that would really be very bad news. Thanks in advance for the help, and I apologize if you consider this off topic. Looking forward to hearing good news and good music! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/flac/at...

how much horsepower will i need for streaming?
...the linux audio developer's conference #2 (http://www.zkm.de/lad), and i was wondering how much cpu power will be required on the master server. we need to record 2 48k stereo signals simultaneously and encode them into three streams each: 2x 54kbit/s 22k05 mono 2x 112kbit/s 48k stereo 2x 192kbit/s 48k stereo it would be very nice if the same box could handle the streaming to between 5 and 8 relay servers, so that we have only one single point of failure. how much cpu and memory do you think we'll need to be on the *very safe* side ? thanks in advance, jörn <p> -- "I...

Buffering Problems
...ith shoutcast it is not a problem (though I can't use stream-db with it). Here's the setup: Duron 850Mhz 320MB RAM Maxtor 7200RPM 20GB 100mbit FD to switched colo network, realizes speeds of about 30mbit up. stream-db and stream-php into icecast 1.3.11. Reencoded to 128kbit, source is all 192kbit MP3 FYI, my dsl at home is about 5 hops away with pings of approx 13ms, and like I said it is not a problem at all with shoutcast and ices. Cranking the buffer up to 320 or 512kbit in winamp solves the problem, but I'd like it to work properly by default. -- Keenan Tims ktims@uniserve.com U...

Icecast occasionally not dropping aliased/relayed sources
Hello, At the university I work at, we are running Icecast 1.3.12 under FreeBSD 4.5. There are 2 sources being fed from another local machine as well as 13 aliased sources which come from an ISP owned by our upstream bandwidth provider. These are mostly 128kbit with a few 192kbit streams. The majority of the time it works fine, however occasionally I notice that the external stream is not dropped when there is noone listening to it. If I look at the list.cgi page it shows the source streams connected with 0 listeners each. If I use the admin interface to disconnect th...

Force different codecs on call base
Hello, what i want to do is to find a way how i can solve the following problem. we want to offer our customers in the country side also isdn over voip but we have to use internet connections from another company for this. This company offers a QoS on this connections but only with 192kbit bandwith and with the ATM headers a normal g711a call has exactly 103,5 kbit/s so we can only use 1 channel but for isdn we need 2 :( my idea was if i can find a way that the first call of a peer has g711a codec (like normally) and if a second call comes in, or has to be placed for this peer i onl...

[HTB] about SCHED_JSCALE value
at 1 Jul 2005, I request help about HTB setting because my HTB setting did not work. After days, I found the source code bug lead to problem. My linux kernel is v2.4.17 port for mips by boardcom. boardcom set HZ to 200 in linux/include/asm-mips/param.h. In linux/include/net/pkt_sched.h, SCHED_JSCALE is set to 0 according to HZ=200. When I set SCHED_JSCALE to 13, the problem is solved. Shun

ensure game server latency
Hi group, first of all: I am new to this group and hope to bring in some value later. At the moment I am such a beginner that I will probably of no use to anyone and only be asking stupid questions... I am running a little private linux server with kernel 2.4.21. It serves as a gameserver, webserver and mailserver, mainly. It also does the pppoe connect via a DSL modem to my provider and the NAT

high frequencies response
Hi there In the past, i have used lame to encode high quality mp3-files (vbr 1, bitrate ~ 192kbit). I tend to switch to ogg with Quality 4 or 5, but i noticed, that many ogg-files tend to produce too much high frequencies response. In many cases, this is very noticeable. For my opinion, i cannot accept this worse frequence reponse. I have used latest version of ogg (OggEnc v1.0, precompiled bin...

Mono wavs with b4
When I encode a monophonic wav file, I would expect the resulting ogg file to be at about half the bit rate specified on the command line, as stated in the "oggenc -h" help text: "The 6 modes are approximately 112, 128, 160, 192, 256, and 350 kbps (for stereo 44.1kHz input. Halve these numbers for mono input).". This doesn't seem to be happening, though. I took a 16-bit,

MP3/Vorbis comparision
In my efforts to convince people to hear how good Vorbis is when compared to MP3, I'm gonna be encoding tracks from my CD collection to both formats, then writing them to audio CD, so people don't have to install extra software to hear the difference. Has anyone got some suggested specs for the options for MP3 encoding when using CDex or Chun-Yu's MP3 writer for winamp (preferably in
