Slow network performance issues
Hi,
I have a fedora21 system that's been running fine under normal network
activity, but trying to perform a full backup of the 300GB filesystem is
taking forever because the network speed appears to be very slow.
Using rsync, the transfer speeds reach a max of like 180kB/s. Using
rsync to copy files on the local filesystem is greater than 55MB/s, so I
don't think it's a disk issue.
What kind of network speed can I expect copying data across the network
from the guest to another host on the same gigabit network?
I'm using the virtio driver:

Interesting slow Samba read and write problem - GnuCash
...ovided the right answer.
The high points!
- Two Samba servers joined with an OpenVPN link over Internet. Worst
case bandwidth about 384Kbps.
- A WXP client on one of the servers LANs trying to access data on the
server at the other end of the link
- The data is a compressed GnuCash XML file around 180KB
- Reading or writing this data file (from within the app) takes around
3-5 minutes. (There are some extra things that GnuCash does of course)
- If instead of a GnuCash data file I try to read or write an Excel data
(220KB) file it takes maybe 10 seconds. Large file movements (hundreds
of MB even) w...

Hi,
I've been having problems, like many others, properly sharing a vfat
partition with samba. I've encountered the following problems:
1. Can't copy files larger then ~180Kb to a vfat partition shared with
samba, using a win98 client.
2. Can't modify and save a file shared as writable (e.g. Excel .xls) on a
vfat shared partition.
I've been following many postings to samba related newsgroups discovering
that many others are encountering the very same problems,...
