RE: error (fwd)
...after
gobbling up 2.7G of memory. I parsed through the read.dta function and
figured out where the error occurs and the description is below. I am
running R-1.8.1 on Debian stable system glibc2.2 kernel 2.4.24. R is is
compiled from source as a shared library. The file that I am reading is
only 172M in size. The system I am using has 4G of free memory and 8 G of
swap so this doesn't seem to be a problem for lack of free memory. See
Below.
Thanks.

SMB slow by design?
...for at least three cases I have tested:
* Windows 98 SE reading from a Samba 3.0.22 smbd
* Windows XP reading from a Samba 3.0.23d
* smbclient reading from 127.0.0.1 (3.0.23d)
According to iptraf, the average transfer rate was oscillating between
8604.60 kbps and 8654.20 kbit/s, copying a 172MiB sample file took about
5 minutes.
On the other hand, copying the file using a more simple protocol
resulted in:
$ rsync -PHSav localhost:/tmp/172m-testfile /dev/shm/
40361 kbit/s, 66 seconds total transfer time
In the win98--3.0.22 network I have observed that smbd takes a lot of

Apparently no swap configured
Hello,
I'm in a slightly unusual situation and I'd really appreciate some advice.
I installed CentOS 5.2 on a server about a month ago.
Today I happened to check the 'free' command and noticed that the Swap
line reads as follows:
Swap: 0 0 0
I'm pretty certain that when I installed the OS and created a custom
partition table, that I defined a

compression at zfs filesystem creation
Hi,
I just installed 2009.06 and found that compression isn''t enabled by default when filesystems are created. Does is make sense to have an RFE open for this? (I''ll open one tonight if need be.) We keep telling people to turn on compression. Are there any situations where turning on compression doesn''t make sense, like rpool/swap? what about rpool/dump?
Thanks,
