Extremely slow on certain files
...a large data set (approx 140K files, 4TB) between machines directly connected on gigabit ethernet. Normally it runs around 20MB/sec, which is acceptable. However, it seems like there is one particular file that is giving rsync heartburn... whenever it encounters this file, the speed drops down to 150KB/sec speed within a few seconds. I don't know what's so special about this file. I've tried scp'ing it directly between boxes - 20MB/sec. I tried rsync in ssh and daemon modes, same deal - 150KB/sec. rsync 2.6.9 on Redhat EL4 (x86_64). /opt/bin/rsync -av --progress --port=8738 g...

Streaming to Doja devices
...e Phones) are very limited in their connectivity capabilities and was wondering if icecast can help me overcome them. The first limitation is that they only support HTTP that as I can see would not be a problem with icecast. The second limitation is that these Doja devices cannot transfer more than 150KB of data per HTTP connection so I can not simply establish one connection to the streaming server (keep-alive) and download all the stream. So the question is if icecast supports some sort of burst mode were I can establish connections in sequence and download pieces of the stream each time. I saw...

Zero-blocks in large files (smb in libvirt/kvm RHEL)
Hi! I'm having a very strange problem, and I'm running out of ideas how to debug it :) Whenever I copy large files (several hundred MB/GB per file), it happens every now and then that some of them have blocks of zeroes in them. If it happens, it's always between around 50kB and 150kB. The problem occurs when I copy files from Debian6 to Samba on RHEL6.5, using rsync. It happens frequently, but not always... The system setup is rather complex, since it's a network-based multi-server 300 TB mass storage. That's why there's Linux Kernel software RAID, libvirt/KVM, G...

Data distribution not even between vdevs
...a. But now, as show below, the first 2 raidz1 vdev usage is about 78% and the last 2 raidz1 vdev usage is about 93%. I have line in /etc/system set zfs:metaslab_df_free_pct=4 So the performance degrade will happen when the vdev usage is above 90%. All my file is small files which size is about 150KB. Now the questions is: 1. Should I balance the data between the vdevs by copy the data and remove the data which locate in last 2 vdevs? 2. Is there any method to automatically re-balance the data? or Any better solution to resolve this problem? root at nas-01:~# zpool iostat -v...

help:too slow
...; looks like this: #----------------------- 118 118 122 . . . -90 -84 -120 -108 #------------ contains about 380000 numbers and has a size of 1.5Mb. Not a small file I understand, but not too large! However I do not use the whole file at _this_ stage of my task, I use no more than 10% (no more than 150Kb) if it is matter. Well. Problem: m<-col2mat(w) works toooo slow. One row (that is 220 numbers) of such a matrix is being formed in ~5 sec! (5*2000 = 10000 sec). it is slowed in thousands times comparing to analogical C-code, too much I think. Q1: is there a better way to create my matrix? (m...

Huge SIP traffic!!
Hi, Has somthing radical happened to the way sip traffic is handled?? I was just doing some testing and where G.711 used to use about 84kb/s of bandwith its now using between 150kb/s and 190kb/s.. The lowest I could get it to in the Snom was 160kb/s and 75 packets per second which was by setting the packet size to 40ms (was 20ms) in the Snom codec setup.. I am running a CVS version from about a month ago so I will update in the morning and see if it gets back to normal bu...

Question about Steam.
...g wine1.3, installed from the winehq repo on ubuntu 10.10. I installed steam through winetricks, nothing else. After this i told steam to start installing civ V. And for some time it just downloader with 1.4mb/sec. then suddenly everything stopped... and all i could squeeze out of my connection was 150kb/sek. Is there anything in wine1.3, or perhaps steam running under wine1.3 that makes my connections slow?

rsync transfer rates over ssh
...data from our central office to another office. Our central office is connected to the internet via T1 and the other office is connected to the internet via DSL. rsync is being run at the remote office to pull data down from the central office so I expect to see transfer speeds at a maximum of ~150KB/s, or so. Instead I'm seeing this on a ~310mb file (just one example): 0 0% 0.00kB/s 0:00:00 13372944 4% 12.75MB/s 0:00:23 22294152 7% 10.63MB/s 0:00:26 32173104 10% 10.23MB/s 0:00:26 .... 313022664 99% 2.63MB/s 0:00:00...

Compressing data for package builds
Hi, I have two .rda files that I need to include in a package. I've placed them both in a data directory after save() the are around 150Kb each. When I try to check the package I get the following warning Warning: large data file(s) saved inefficiently: size ASCII compress zagoskin.rda 137Kb FALSE none Note: significantly better compression could be obtained by using R CMD build --resave-data...

Rsync to remote host much faster than 10k/sec speeds on local rsync
...usage. I have tried --bwlimit 100 in a vague hope it might affect disk io but it didn't help. Rsync version is 2.6.9 1.el4.rf from rpm. The directory size of the destination backup directory is around 30gb. There is one directory where the majority of the files are and they are jpgs between 5k-150kb. The command I am running is simple: /usr/bin/rsync -a --bwlimit=100 --stats /src/dir1 /src/dir2 /backup/dir -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

But I'd guess it's either a bug with re-assembling the larger metadata

Rsync / ssh high cpu load
Hi everybody, I am using Cygwin rsync/ssh to synchronize my files from my home computer to my server. I raised a question on the Cygwin list as well, but thought this list would be appropriate too. The issue is that the CPU on the sending side is fully allocated by rsync/ssh (both taking 50%) during a file transfer. This is the command I use: rsync -e ssh * <user>@<server>:/data

[LLVMdev] SLP vectorizer on AVX feature
Frank, It sounds like the SLP vectorizer thinks that it is more profitable to use 128bit wide operations (because 256bit operations are double pumped on Sandybridge). Did you see a different result on Haswell? Thanks, Nadav > On Jul 1, 2015, at 11:06 AM, Frank Winter <fwinter at jlab.org> wrote: > > I realized that the function parameters had no alignment attributes on them.
