76Gb to 146Gb [Resolved]
Hello all,
I would like to thank you all for your kind replies and
feedback in regards to migrating from a smaller hdd to a
bigger one (namely from 72gb to 146gb).
I finally found a painless way of doing this.
Since I believe that this is still an off-topic post, if
anyone is interested in the solution i've adopted for this,
let me know by replying to me privately.
If, however, you don't mind me posting here, let me know.
Many many thanks go to?...

76Gb to 146Gb
...is wonderful. I am very happy with it.
However, I am running out of disk space.
It has two times 76Gb Drives in RAID1 (disk mirroring) and the capacity
has reached 82%.?
I am starting of getting nervous.
Does anyone know of a painless way to migrate the entire contents directly
to another pair of 146Gb SCSI RAID1 disks ?
I thought of downtime and using clonezilla, but my last experience with it
was questionable. I remember having problems declaring disk re-sizing
from the smaller capacity drives to the larger ones.

Partition/filesystem expansion difficulties
...n immediate problem as the
system kept on running. The real problem was that I had already used
all the spare drives I had on-hand and I could not source a replacement
drive that matched on size and speed (10K).
The original solution:
I then had what I thought was a good idea and I purchase three 146GB
10K drives. I would replace the two 36GB drives used in the system
mirrored pair with 146GB drives and have one 146GB spare. I would
then be able to free up a 36GB to use as a spare for the other three
pairs of drives. This proved to be easier said then done but I did
eventually get it done by usin...

Suggestions for partition
The recent thread on Anaconda and RAID10 made me start to think about
how to partition a server I'm about to set up. I have two 146GB SCSI
drives on an IBM x3550. It will be used as a build system. As such,
there is no critical data on these systems, as the source code will
be checked out of our source control system, and the build results
are copied to another system. I usually build my systems with
Kickstart, so if...

Software versus hardware RAID performance.
...erything
updated for GNUradio to run on CentOS 4 became more of a job that it should
have) for our pulsar data processing machine (it has a GNUradio Universal
Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) attached USB 2.0), which has a Dell PERC
4e/Di RAID controller, two 72GB 10k U320 SCSI drives, and four 146GB 10k U320
SCSI drives. Well, during installation of a sound card (so we can actually
listen to the dedispersed, phase-aligned, and detected pulsar chirp audio),
something happened to the RAID firmware, so I put the PERC in SCSI-only mode
and installed anyway (I needed to get the install done, a...

expand physical volume
Hi.
I added a disk to a hardware raid 5 array and now i want to expand the
LVM physical volume. There are now 4 sas 146GB disks in the server.
The virtual disk /dev/sdb from the raid controller has been resized
successfully with the server management software osma.

disk partitioning - I'm missing something simple, I think
...74M 22% /boot
tmpfs 442M 0 442M 0% /dev/shm
======================================================
Each night, in addition to our tape backup paradigm, an rsync script is
run which mounts /dev/sdb1 on /mnt/sysinfo and copies system data from
sda1 there. /dev/sdb1 is a 146GB drive. The script then mounts
/dev/sde1 on /mnt/userdata for a copy of /home and /home/adminusers.
/dev/sde1 is a wholly underutilized 300G drive.
I'd like to move the contents of /home/adminusers from /dev/sdd1 to
/dev/sdc1 and use that underutilized drive elsewhere. What's the leas...

FiberChannel, and EMC tutorial?
...#39;ve tried converting the remainder
''dc7dfb170'' from Hex to Dec, and I don''t get anythign that even
resembles the ''000038794003753594'' part of the target.
How does this work?
These LUNs are all 11GB slices from the EMC Arrays which are filled with
146GB drives. Since this is a lab environment I beleive the EMC arrays
are configured with no redundancy. What I''d like to know, is how can I
tell which LUNs might live on the same physical drives?

CentOS on Compaq Proliant Rackmount Servers
Greetings,
Can anyone relate experience(s) installing CentOS on Compaq rack mount
servers units please?
Easy no problem, easy some issues, or ghastly do not do it under any
circumstances... ;)
Basically, I'm looking at some used/refurb dual PIII units and will run RAID
on Compaq built in SCSI or is it easy to pop in some 3ware SATA in them?
Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.

Long import due to spares.
Just for history as to why Fishworks was running on this box...we were
in the beta program and have upgraded along the way. This box is an
X4240 with 16x 146GB disks running the Feb 2010 release of FW with
de-dupe.
We were getting ready to re-purpose the box and getting our data off.
We then deleted a filesystem that was using de-duplication and the box
suddenly went into a freeze and the pool had activity like crazy.
After several failed attempts to re...

diagnosing strange crash/hang
This morning I get a call that a server is down. The server in
question is a vmware guest, windows 2003 advanced. The host is vmware
server 1.01, running on centos 4.4 x64 on a poweredge 2950. The
server has 16g of ram and a quadcore cpu, storage is provided by a
perc 5/i, raid 1 across two 146gb sas drives.
I was able to ssh into the host. After trying to ping the guest, and
trying to connect to vmware via the management console, I decided to
restart the vmware service. so I type service vmware restart. it
hung on "shutting down virtual machines". I was able to ctrl-c out,
a...

Filebench, X4200 and Sun Storagetek 6140
Hi there
I''m busy with some tests on the above hardware and will post some scores soon.
For those that do _not_ have the above available for tests, I''m open to suggestions on potential configs that I could run for you.
Pop me a mail if you want something specific _or_ you have suggestions concerning filebench (varmail) config setup.
Cheers
