Tuning for large number of directory entries?
...faster drives. I installed FC4 and am running a 2.6.14 kernel. I thought that even if my problems were not completely solved, I would at least not see connection times increase until I had many more directory entries (wild guess - 20K).
Since I am writing, you can guess that is not the case. At 13K directory entries, I am still seeing significantly slower connection times even with the faster hardware and newer software.
I'm limited in what I can move because MySQL expects everyting in the "data" directory.
My questions are: 1) I don't know much about htree, but I reca...

AGAIN: file object treated as string
I am trying to implement the uploading of a file to a remote server
I get error while trying to write the file on the server. The error I

locfit troubles
Dear R experts,
We've been playing with the locfit package and are experiencing a
problem I am hoping for some help on.
We have a dataset of 13k points, one dimension of which is "judgment",
either 0 or 1, and the other "score", an arbitrary scalar (in this case
it's between .65 and .85). We use
locfit(judgement~score,kern="rect",deg=0,family="normal",alpha=c(alpha0,alpha1))
which is the simpl...

Suggestions for 96 tip/ring lines?
...lder Panasonic unit providing
service to 96 tip/ring lines from a single PRI. Does anyone have any
recent experience with a decent (as in, plays nice with * and has a
reasonable per-port cost) channel bank or similar?
Mediatrix only goes up to 24 port, as far as I can tell, which puts me
around 13k of just their hardware. And it just doesn't seem quite as
carrier class as a traditional channel bank to me.....but I'm just going
on gut feeling here....please feel free to correct me (nicely or not...I
really don't care).

Patch: open port forwards from slave
...be possible to set up
new port forwards in a slave.
So I patched openssh to make it possible to add port forwards via a
slave process. This is done by creating a new command which can be sent
over the control connection (SSHMUX_COMMAND_FORWARD). The patch against
openssh current can be downloaded (13K) from:
http://www.appgate.com/downloads/maf/slavepf-current.patch
I would be happy if other people found it useful and if it could make it
into the official distribution.

[LLVMdev] hello.bc & binary code
hi,
I try to build hello.cpp using both llvmg++ and GNU g++,
the generate llvm bytecode's size is about 960K,
and the size of binary code generated by g++ is only 13K.
Could anyone explain the difference between the two result?
BWT:
I rebuild the cfrontend in RH linux9.0, but when I build the hello.cpp
the llvmG++ reports warnings too, it shows:
