Two Fire Wire ports PCMCIA ieee 1394
Hi Everyone,
I'm running wine in a Linux Ubuntu installation and I need to use a two firewire ports pcmcia but Wine doesn't seem to recognise it at all!
Do you know if it is compatible with wine? (I know that it is not possible to use it on windows Vmware virtual machines)
If it is, Can anyone throw some light on how can I get wine to recognise this hardware? (I installed the pcmcia

Infiniba(n)d and Firewire (1394)
...fig file, these guys need either the Client
Identifier, or the PC UUID. The Client Identifier is a fairly opaque
object which tends to include various fixed portions; the PC UUID is far
to often not at all or incorrectly programmed.
I'm interested in how people who have DHCP setups with IB or 1394 handle
this, and also how long the Client Identifier really is (in bytes). My
first plan was to simply expand it out in dash-separated hexadecimal the
way I currently do with the mac, but such a filename could get *very*
long which can cause a whole lot of trouble.

ieee1394 firewire disk unable to see or mount [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
We have some LaCie 1 TB external disks which work fine on
other Linux servers (running Red Hat 9, and Ubuntu 7.04),
but which fail to be seen on our CentOS 4.3 system with
kernel 2.6.9-34.107.plus.c4smp
The interface card is a Sunix 64 bit Firewire 800 ieee1394b
adapter plugged into a PCI slot in our Linux server, which
is a Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro S2882-D, 64 bit AMD Opteron CPU
Using "cat" to examine the "/proc/scsi/scsi" information shows
our system hard disk and internal RAID array:

levels(f)<-list doesn't work as expected when list is longer than nlevels(f) (PR#1394)
Full_Name: Hsiu-Khuern Tang
Version: 1.4.1
OS: Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (192.6.19.190)
Hi all,
When renaming the levels of a factor f using levels(f)<-list(...), if the
list is longer than the original number of levels in f, the result is wrong.
Example:
> f <- factor(c("a","b"))
> levels(f) <- list(C="C", A="a", B="b")

It's one thing for me to argue "good" v. "ideal," take it as you wish.
But that's very, very, _very_ different than this.
In this case, I'm arguing "proper" v. "risky" system design.
But it's your system.

I don't think we _ever_ said that.
We just said don't use IEEE-1394 or USB for removable storage on
a server. You ca...

It would appear that the bus bandwidth is limited to about 10MB/sec (~80Mbps) which is well below the theoretical 400Mbps that 1394 is supposed to be able to handle. I know that these two disks can go significantly higher since I was seeing 30MB/sec when they were used on Macs previously in the same daisy-chain configuration.
I get the same symptoms on both the 2009.06 and the b129 machines.

FireWire in CentOS 5.3
...ome time ago.
I scrapped that computer but kept the cards, and have now installed the
card in my current computer in hopes that I will be able to go from the
camera to HD in preparation for editing / transcoding (to theora) for
the web.
lspci reports the following info:
01:08.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB12LV26 IEEE-1394
Controller (Link)
What is the current state of FireWire in CentOS ?
Will there be a need to build a custom kernel I boot into when I want to
attach the camera and rip digital video from it?
If it matters, I'm 64-bit.
I assume I can always plug the c...
