Bind failed on port 137
Has anyone had this one?
My log.nmb file gives:

Very slow wbinfo -u

I have set up Samba-3.0.11 to retrive account information from W2k
server via winbind, and it works.
But is takes about 10 sec. to retrive the information.
I have dumped some traffic from the request, and it looks like this:

Should there be a process listening on port 135?

multi-homed samba PDC and NetApp filers
...h filer can ping the samba server. CIFS connections from each
filer are registered by the samba server and are logged in the file:
0.0.0.0.log
Each of the filers moved to a new network. Filer #1 rejoined the
domain but filer #2 can't.

Use Samba on an other port than 137-139?

I would like to ask you if its possible to run Samba on an other port than
137-139?
I tried once to edit the "/etc/services" File.
The lines:

When I tested my firewall at grc.com, Shields-Up informs me that ports 113 and
135 are closed and not ''stealthed''
When reading the faq on the Shorewall site I saw that shorewall rejects rather
than denys connection requests on ''TCP ports 113, 135, 137 and 139
as well as UDP ports 137-139''.
The file /etc/shorewall/common.def advises me not to edit the file but rather
to create a new one.
Can anyone give me an idea on how to do this so that the above ports deny
request attempts.

I am currently blocking out netbios UDP port 137 on my firewall and was
wondering what the following means in terms of security:

Slow network to samba machine

that is a little disturbing;

Slow "run as ...", firewall issues.

true if a different application is selected. Wait one minute though
(about, 30 seconds is not long enough, 45 seconds to 1 minute usually
is) and the next time it will be slow once more.
Working back through this it turned out that the firewall rule which had
previously allowed 137-138 access:
