Dell 2950 III for Xen virtualization
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to see if anyone has experience running Xen on:
Dell 2950 III
2 x Quad 2.0 Ghz 1333Mhz FSB
32 GB DDR2 (8x4GB)
2 Disk Perc RAID 1 (7200 RPM SAS)
Broadcom Dual Gigabit Ethernet LOM & TOE
The requirements of each VM are not that high (and are all identical).
I just want to run remote desktop and 1 other application at any
given time (either a web based IE application built on java...

1333/8GB Intel motherboard for C5.1
Hi there, has anyone run into any Desktop/Workstation Intel brand motherboards that work with CentOS 5.1 (4.6/3.9 out of box compatibility is a very large plus) and work with the 1333MHZ cpus such as the 8400/9450 and accept 8GB of RAM? The closest we've found so far is the DG31PR which is alright but it has the limitation of 4GB of RAM and an unsupported Realtek NIC. The DQ35JO is also ok, but requires quite a bit of 'jostling' to get to work such as pci=nommconf and o...

How to find out if the installed NIC supports SR-IOV?
Hi,
I am working with a westemere based server. I need to find out if the NIC
installed there supports SR-IOV - what would be the best way to determine
that?
Regards,
Kashyap

Performance issues/difference of two servers running same task (one is quicker)
.../ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/codename/54534/westmere-ep.html>
Code NameProducts formerly Sandy Bridge
<https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/codename/29900/sandy-bridge.html>
Westmere systems used DDR at 800/1066MHz.
Sandy Bridge systems used DDR at 1066/1333MHz.
Not a huge difference, but likely another contributing factor of
performance.
I would also look at power settings in the BIOS and c-state settings in the
BIOS and OS as disabling c-states (often enabled by default to meet
green/energy star compliance) can make a noticeable performance difference....

WoW freeze computer
...otally,
I have to push the reset button).
I have Kubuntu 8.04 64 Bits and Wine 1.1.2 (but the problems started
with the 0.9.59 and all the versions afterward) on a an Intel Core 2 Duo
E6700, 2GB RAM, EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX; the motherboard is a "ECS PN2
SLI2+ Extreme nForce 680i SLI Socket 775 1333MHz DDR2-800". The video
drivers are up-to-date (173.14.09), I am using a self-compiled kernel
2.6.26, but the problem happens also with the default Kubuntu kernel
(2.6.24-19).
I did the "Registry Tweak" suggested in AppDB

CPU high usage
...using other binding? e.g. python?
Will i better off in using distributed search?
My goal is to optimize the search, while the doc size will grow to very
big,e.g. 100M+
My testing suit is using:
Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
8G ram
1x 10krpm WD HD
My live servers:
Dell R710
2x E5530 2.4G
24G RAM 1333MHz
8x 73G 15K RPM SAS raid 0

btrfs-delalloc - threaded?
Hi all.
I was doing some testing with writing out data to a BTFS filesystem
with the compress-force option. With 1 program running, I saw
btfs-delalloc taking about 1 CPU worth of time, much as could be
expected. I then started up 2 programs at the same time, writing data
to the BTRFS volume. btrfs-delalloc still only used 1 CPU worth of
time. Is btrfs-delalloc threaded, to where it can use

Performance issues/difference of two servers running same task (one is quicker)
Hi
I need some advice what to do next, even if someone tells me to
check out (an)other mailing list(s), tuning site or point me in a better
direction how to solve my annoying problem: one server is much faster
for certain tasks although on "shitty" hardware.
I have tried many things to solve my issue
- changed buffer/pool/cache/etc mysqld
- changed server settings apache/php

Xen system hang or freeze
Hi all,
This is my first post to the list, I hope someone out there can help!
I am running xen 3.0.3, with CentOS 5.2 based Dom0
(kernel-xen-2.6.18-92.1.22.el5)
Recently I have noticed some complete system lockups on a few different
servers. Neither Dom0 or any of the guests respond to pings, connecting a
keyboard and monitor to the system only shows a blank screen. Nothing is
written to logs

ZFS Hardware Check, OS X Compatibility, NEWBIE!!
This is my first post here, and i hope it is ok that i posted in this thread.
I have been doing a bit of reading on the solaris platforms, and seem to be inclined to try out the open solaris os or solaris 10. My only worry is that my lack of knowledge with the command line may make this difficult regarding trouble shooting. It seems fairly straighforward creating zpools etc, but maybe nexenta is

ATI/AMDs atikmpag.sys BSOD while vga passthrough
Hi everyone
since I''m currently migrating from xm to xl and now are also a victim
of the said error, I started researching on it and found that many
people had the issue but not many found solution and behind this BSOD
(=Bluescreen of Death), there are actually multiple errors in hiding.
What I would like to do is gather as much info as possible in this
thread to form a kind of
