TCNG HTB priority and bandwidth
Hi, I have several users on the lanside each allocated separate IP addresses. I need to allocate th traffic to each IP addresses certain portion of total uplink. Say, 192.168.0.2 rate 128kbps, ceil 128kbps. 192.168.0.3 rate 65kbps, ceil 128kbps 129.168.0.4 rate 64kbps, ceil 64kbps. and so on.... Also, for each user i would like to prioritize the traffic within the allocated bandwidth. say for (192.168.0.2 rate 128kbps, ceil128kbps), i would like to set prio 1 for http or https traffic...

c't listening test: Ogg problem at 128kbps
...39;m new to this list, and in fact rather new to the Ogg/Vorbis codec altogether. I recently downloaded the test files from the test conducted by the German computer magazine c't (this was mentioned by someone here recently). The idea was that you were given seven WAV files each for 64kbps and 128kbps, and had to rate them. The files were randomly chosen for each participant. Also supplied was an (another) uncompressed sample for reference. Now that the test is over, I got an email telling me which file corresponds to which codec. Here are my results: At 64kbps, Ogg turned out to be the best, a...

How can I get min 64kbps max 128kbps bandwidth
...maxburst 21 tc filter add dev $DEV parent 1: protocol ip prio 5 u32 match ip dst 0.0.0.0/0 flowid 1:1 But what I want is if there is unused bandwith i.e. others are not ''working'' I want to divide this available bandwith euqal to the users who are working BUT only at a maxmimum of 128kbps. I.e. min 64kbps max 128kbps for every user. I now from reading that you can do such things with borrow but how?? Any help very welcome Thanks Beat

How to define class type hierarchy of speeds?
Hi I''m very very new to tc iproute etc and have read the LARTC howto. What I want to do is create some "master" classes of bandwidth limit and below that per ip address which "inherits" from this master class. Example: one queue for 128Kbps other queue for 256Kbps What I want now is that for example in "class" 128Kbps the ip 10.0.0.5, 10.0.0.8 etc. goes BUT every ip adress will have 128Kbps. The same for 256Kbps. 128Kbps |_ 10.0.0.5 |_ 10.0.0.8 256Kbpss |_ 10.0.0.6 |_ 10.0.0.7 Is there now way to do that without...

[new?] Streaming technique
Hi, I have a newbie question, and a not-so-newbie one. I've just found out about Ogg, and I haven't been able to find a clear answer in the many webpages this proyect has (btw, why not create just one site instead of vorbis.com, ogg-vorbis.com...). The question is, does Ogg use perceptual coding, like mp3 does? And if so, would it be possible to build an encoder in such a way as to

...ooking for information on how icecast handles multiple clients. Haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. Could someone please explain (or direct me to links) what happens to the upload bandwidth of a box running icecast, when more than one client connects? For example, if a box on a 128kbps upload connection is serving a 64Kbps stream (and not audio-on-demand) - is it limited to two connections or is icecast somehow more efficient? cheers, Iain -- Iain Mott www.reverberant.com

In the bandwidth considerations section you'll find: "Consider this scenario. A T1 link has a capacity of approx. 1.55 Mb/...

I converted the 128kbps tom.mp3 file into a .wav and then used oggenc -m 2 to laterally encode it to 128kbps tommy.ogg format. I noticed that it gets very close to the size of an mp3, great job guys. Then I got to thinking that maybe it could be compressed further with gzip so I tried it. I also gzipped the mp3 to compare...

Two streams, one source, two different bandwidths: A newbie question
Ok - here's what I want to do... I compiled and installed icecast 1.3.11 and ices 0.2.2, and can get a single lame-encoded stream working. What I'd like to do is set up two streams - one at 48kbps, one at 128kbps - from one source. Reason being is that I'd like to listen to the high-bandwidth stream locally (ie: in another room of the house) while I listen to the 48kbps stream elsewhere. Theoretically, I could set up a playlist, two separate icecast processes, and two separate ices processes that pull...

Why not qos for downloading stream??
HI there Simple question :-) Why there is always only qos examples for upload and not download stream of adsl? I have a linux router which shares 5 wireless "customers" my neighbours and me to one adsl link 512kbps download 128kbps upload ... Now does it make sense to do qos on the linux router for download for us? Say if someone is using ssh from outside ... So I tried to apply the example 15.10 of Cookbook of the lartc howto on the linux router ... I have for every neighbour a class which limits its traffic to 128kbps and...
