CentOS 5.4 x86_64 only detects 32GB RAM while Fedora x86_64 correctly lists 128GB
Hi,
We have a new 24-core Dell PowerEdge R905 server with 128GB's RAM. The 64 bits version of Fedora 12 lists the correct amount of 128GB, CentOS only finds 32GB (and so does Scientific Linux). I would much prefer to use CentOS (most of the software we use is specifically designed for CentOS). Does anyone know what is causing this/how to fix it?
Many Thank...

Question about implementation of 32-bit guests on 64-bit hypervisor (IDT-related)
In a recent conversation one of my coworkers raised a concern about
memory limitations when running 32-bit guests on top of the 64-bit
hypervisor. At this point the discussion is academic; I don''t know
when/if we''ll ever be able to get system resources to test it, to see if
the concerns that he expressed are real. So I decided to post this in
hope of getting comments from the

Stress test zfs
Hi all,
I''ve got a solaris 10 running 9/10 on a T3. It''s an oracle box with 128GB
memory RIght now oracle . I''ve been trying to load test the box with
bonnie++. I can seem to get 80 to 90 K writes, but can''t seem to get more
than a couple K for writes. Any suggestions? Or should I take this to a
bonnie++ mailing list? Any help is appreciated. I''m kinda...

Building a NFS server with a mix of HDD and SSD (for caching)
.../dev/VGnfs/lv_cache
# lvconvert --cachemode writeback --type cache /dev/VGnfs/LVnfs
--cachepool /dev/VGnfs/lv_cache
# mkfs.xfs /dev/VGnfs/LVnfs
And now I'm asking myself if I'm not doing something somewhat dangerous
for a server that will be critical when in production :]
The server has 128GB of RAM so maybe the caching in memory will be
sufficient to achieve good performance ?
What do you think ? Do you use something similar ?
Thanks !

hardware issues and new server advice
...also previously had issues with the load created by raid resync so we
are considering to skip raid alltogether and rely on gluster replication
instead. (by compensating with three replicas per brick instead of two)
our options are:
6 of these:
AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 3600 - 6c/12t - 3.6GHz/4.2GHz
32GB - 128GB RAM
4 or 6 ? 6TB HDD SATA
6Gbit/s
or three of these:
AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 3700 - 8c/16t - 3.6GHz/4.4GHz
32GB - 128GB RAM
6? 14TB HDD SAS
6Gbit/s
i would configure 5 bricks on each server (leaving one disk as a hot
spare)
the engineers prefer the second option due to the architecture and SAS
disks. i...

lazy zfs destroy
OK I have a very large zfs snapshot I want to destroy. When I do this, the system nearly freezes during the zfs destroy. This is a Sun Fire X4600 with 128GB of memory. Now this may be more of a function of the IO device, but let''s say I don''t care that this zfs destroy finishes quickly. I actually don''t care, as long as it finishes before I run out of disk space.
So a suggestion for room for growth for the zfs suite is the a...

Memory limit for Windows 64bit build of R
...on 2 x Quad-core Intel Xeon 5500 processor with 24GB DDR3 1066 Mhz
RAM. I am seeking to analyse very large data sets (perhaps as much as
10GB), without the addtional coding overhead of a package such as
bigmemory().
My question is this - if we were to increase the RAM on the machine to
(say) 128GB, would this become a possibility? I have read the
documentation on memory limits and it seems so, but would like some
additional confirmation before investing in any extra RAM.
Kind regards

OT: Backup Question/Solution
Hello,
I want to switch from DVDs as a backup medium to a usb flash drive. I have
been using Mondo but get tired of feeding it DVD+RWs.
I purchased a 128GB flash drive. I can't get Mondo to write to it. I want to
be able to make this device bootable. Do I need it reformat it from a
Windows file system to ext4? I never had to format a blank DVD previously.
Is there a better solution for backing up a home system to some sort of
external media?...

CENTOS 4.7 or 5.2 32 bits O.S. for ORACLE DB server??
we plan to setup our ORACLE database server (32 bits DB) and use dell r900 server. This server can put up to 128GB RAM.
We are thinking use 32 bits CENTOS 4.7 or 5.2. My concern about CENTOS 5.2 is it only support up to 16 GB RAM on 32 bits O.S.
Any suggestion?

RHEL 5.2 Xen Kernel doesn''t detect all amount of physical memory
Hello All,
Does anyone know what is the current status of RHEL 5.2 x86_64 with respect
to the maximum amount of RAM detected by the Xen 64 bit kernel
(the one that shipped with Red Hat distribution )
In the following link
https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-5-manual/en-US/RHEL510/Virtualization_Guide/ch-virt-hw-support.html
it states that 32GB of RAM is the maximum amount of

glusterfs brick server use too high memory
Hi all,
I'm glad to add glusterfs community.
I have a glusterfs cluster:
Nodes: 4
System: Centos7.1
Glusterfs: 3.8.9
Each Node:
CPU: 48 core
Mem: 128GB
Disk: 1*4T
There is one Distributed Replicated volume. There are ~160 k8s pods as clients connecting to glusterfs. But, the memory of glusterfsd process is too high, gradually increase to 100G every node.
Then, I reboot the glusterfsd process. But the memory increase during approximate a week.

System started crashing hard after zpool reconfigure and OI upgrade
...bad. They just disappear from the
network, black and unresponsive console, no error lights but no activity
indication either. The only way out is to power cycle the system.
There is no pattern in the crashes. It may crash in 2 days in may crash in
2 hours.
I upgraded the memory on both systems to 128GB at no avail. This is the max
memory they can take.
In summary all I did is upgrade to OI 151.a.7 and reconfigured zpool.
Any idea what could be the problem.
Thank you

auto-ballooning crashing Dom0?
Hi,
during some experiments with many guests I get crashing Dom0s because of
too less memory. Actually the OOM killer goes ''round and kills random
things, preferably qemu-dm''s ;-)
The box in question has 128GB of memory, I start with dom0_mem=8192M (or
16384M, doesn''t matter). I also used "dom0_mem=8192M,min:1536M", but
that didn''t make any difference. Xen is c/s 25688.
Then I start some guests with 2GB each. This works fine until about 55
guests, then I get some denies fr...

commiting SAM database

up to windows 2012 over the years. The domain is responsible for the
login of all 20.000 students. So over the years they have over 170.000
Objects. For the migration we used the 4.11 sernet-packages. We started
with 32GB of RAM and noticed that this was not enough. We raised the RAM
to 128GB. After reading all objects the system needed 28GB RAM but then
the "commiting SAM database" process started and the RAM usage increases
up to 68GB. Because we have to get the new domain running we stopped the
migration after 28 hours. Because the original domain is getting all
objects via...

Which build system are you using?
On my build config (16 core/32 thread, 128GB RAM) it takes 47 user seconds
to rebuild the clang binary after making the change you mentioned - with
ninja and lld, host compiler is a recent release build of clang. Ninja
reports building 377 things.
Comparatively, if I change something in lib/CodeGen/AsmPrinter, it builds 4
things and takes 19...

We seek an Android search interface that would interact with an index of ~128GB of resources.
We can create the index on more powerful machines with any OS in our development lab, but need to provide the end users with tools to search that index on their devices.
Thanks in advance for your advice and insights!
