get widescreen 1280x800 for intel 965GM chipset
Dear All,
I come from FreeBSD world. This is my first time setting up a CentOS
on my laptop Dell Vostro 1400 with intel 965GM chipset. I am having problem
here and need your help.
I have 5.1 release installed.
I have trouble to get 1280x800 resolution. The driver used is I810. I don't know
if the chipset is too new for the xorg driver, and can anyone tell me
if there is a fix,
maybe with 915resolution?
Any information is helpful. Thanks here in advance.

Determining screen size and/or resolution?
What''s the easiest or best way to determine the screen size from within a controller or view in Rails? My "divs" look great at 1280x800, but not so hot on 800x600. I want to dynamically alter the layout based on the resolution. Any hints regarding screen size or alternate ways of handling this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks!

[Bug 12833] New: Geforce 8400M GS (id 0x427): stick to 800x600
...t
QAContact: xorg-team at lists.x.org
I switched from the nvidia-glx-new driver to the Ubuntu 7.10 packages from
"raof". It was git snapshot b36fbf174849b04928efda2909c461b6c1688cdc.
X boots fine and GDM appears, but the screen is set to 800x600, while the
native resolution is 1280x800. The computer is a Dell xPS M1330. The card
vendor is said to be "Dell". I don't know how much Dell is modifying the
design.
What do you need to introspect and maybe fix it? I hoped to find such
instructions on the wiki. I didn't have the time to save the X log. I'll post
it...

[Bug 35049] New: Cannot use higher resolutions of monitor
...) then followed the instructions on the nouveau wiki
(http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/DebianInstall) to build a new kernel and
drivers. This was successful. The problem is that I have a monitor which
supports up to 2560x1600 (which the monitor reports by EDID) but the drivers
will only run at 1280x800. If I use xrandr to resize, I get a desktop that is
compressed to be equivalent to the larger size, but is actually 1280x800. I
have tried adding a virtual line to my monitor section and setting the
preferredmode. These did not help. The Xorg log shows that it detects the
higher resolutions. I...

Rendering issues with KDE (GeForce 7150M/nForce 630M)
In addition to bug 70972 (Modesetting failure at 1280x800), there may be
another bug affecting the NVIDIA GeForce 7150M/nForce 630M. I think that
this is a separate issue from the above.
When using KDE or Ubuntu Unity with nouveau on this GPU, there were
artifacts and missing UI elements. I think that this is probably more
likely to be a rendering issue...

[Bug 33728] New: Framebuffer and Xorg display distorted only at monitor's native resolution

Xorg log
As shown in the attached photo, the correctly detected native resolution for my
laptop's LCD (1280x800) is severely distorted when using the nouveau driver.
The framebuffer console looks similar to X. I can set the framebuffer to a
lower resolution (i.e. kernel=1024x768 at 60 in grub) and set X to 1024x768 with
xrandr to solve the problem.
I've also tried two different external LCD monitors on...

_NET_WM_FULLSCREEN_MONITORS hint (YAY!!)
Hiya Compiz list! I am a Linux UI dude for VMware as my day job and am
working on improving things in Workstation and Player with regards to
multiple monitors on Linux. Some of my colleagues worked with the
xdg/wm-spec folks just earlier this year to get the
_NET_WM_FULLSCREEN_MONITORS hint into the EWMH spec to address the needs
applications have in needing to be both fullscreen and spanning

4.4 on Dell D620: widescreenresolution?
Hi,
Did anyone manage to get 4.4 working on a Dell D620 laptop? The thing
has a 1440x900 LCD screen, but I don't get X the work with that
resolution. (lspci: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03))
Google suggested to use '915resolution', which I installed
(915resolution-0.5.2-1.el4.rf), but that doesn't help.
Regards,

Wine apps limited to first X-Screen resolution?
Hi, I'm aware that this is a very specific use-case, but I thought I'd give it a go in case anyone is aware of a resolution.
What happens is, my laptop's default resolution is 1280x800 (wide-screen). I regularly attach a 1280x1024 external monitor to it. Its running on a separate x-screen (no TwinView or Xinerama). However, when I try to run my Wine apps, apps that are run in a virtual desktop are limited to the size of that virtual desktop. This is obvious. However, apps without...

Code:
wine explorer /desktop=civ4,1280x800 Civ4BeyondSword.exe
My system has twinview running, an external monitor (1280x1024) and my laptop LCD (1280x800). Gnome sees it as one large monitor of 2560x1024, my monitor is on the left, my LCD on the right. Even though I start wine from the laptop monitor, it starts up (with indicated resolu...

Team Fortress 2 losing priority/ how to fix?
Specs:
Ubuntu 10.10 64bit
Nvidia 260 GTX driver ver. 260.19.44
4 gig ram
onboard sound
wine ver. 1.3.16
So TF2 runs great, in dx9 mode its all good.
THAT IS until something pops up on my desktop in the form of a notification or if I needed to alt+tab to something.
I'm running it windowed at 1280x800 through the steam interface, the winecfg is not configured to run in a simulated desktop space.
The once stable and sufficient frame rate I was getting prior to the notification (be it music, messenger client, alt+tab) seems to shut off all priority from TF2 because I'm reduced to 1 frame ever...

Viewport size Q for those with a widescreen Mac.
...Mac. I''m trying to
find out what the pixel size of the viewport is on Safari when you
have it maximised with tabbed browsing and the standard set of
buttons, menus and toolbars in place.
I''ve done the same exercise on Firefox and IE7 on Ubuntu Linux and
Windows, and for a nominal 1280x800 widescreen display you get a
viewport of 1260x570 on Firefox and 1258x652 on IE7.
If you''ve got a Mac and can measure this for me in 1280x800 mode, I''d
be very grateful.
If you''re resolution is higher than this I''d be even more interested
in the results.
