sysctl maxfiles
By default FreeBSD 7.0 shipped with the sysctls set to:
kern.maxfiles: 12328
kern.maxfilesperproc: 11095
We recently bumped up against these limits in an unfortunate way and
we are going to raise them. I have some questions:
* why are the numbers set the way they are? They aren't round numbers,
they aren't powers of 2. But they were arrived at somehow with...

Document Management Suggestions
I am looking to create an intranet document management solution that would
take advantage of Ruby/Rails/Subversion etc.
I want to get away from document management using MS Word, Excel etc.
Can anyone recommend a direction I should investigate?
I am currently gathering information on Docbook, Latex, ODF,ODT,ODG,ODP,
TinyMCE and others as I find them.
Ideally I would like to convert manuals

efficiently multiply different matrices in 3-d array with different vectors?
Hello,
I have been wondering of an efficient way to do this:
I have an n x m x p array Z and a p x n matrix Y.
I want to multiply each of the n matrices with the corresponding column
vector of Y.
In other words, I am wanting to matrix multiply:
Z[i, ,] %*% Y[, i]
which will give me a (two-dimensional) array or matrix of dimension n x
p with the i'th row storing the above.
Any pointers

Problems in SAMBA 3.3 to 4.0 migration
Hi, Rowland, and thanks for the reply.
The PDC OS is Slackware 13. The BDC OS is Slackware 14.
The choice to use Samba 4.0 was merely due to its inclusion on the Slackware
14 distro. I'll worry about upgrading that once I have the migration
complete.
I will post the two machine's respective smb.conf's later today.
