Problem installing Centos on laptop
Hi,
I have been trying to install Centos 4.4 on my laptop with no success. I
have just purchased a new Acer 5100 laptop with AMD Turion 64x2
1Gig ram 120Gig HD.
I have tried the 64bit and the 32 bit versions but have the same problem
with both of them. I can do the complete install but when the computer
reboot it will hang on the hardware detection on the network right after
where it says Centos 4.4 final. I have let it sit for about 20min and it...

The CPU is a 2.8 GIG celeron D with 1GIG memory and 120GIG Seagate drive.
Is is VERY slow. What gives?
Any other experience with something like this?
It is installing but even after install when booting it
is taking VERY long time to even get to the Checking new hardware screen.
Thanks,

swap_free messages in log
...more times...
After rebooting I no longer see it.
I have an intel 865 motherboard, 2.4 celeron,
2 - 300GIG seagate sata drives as software RAID-1.
I have had to reboot the machine sometimes
but there were never any messages on the console
or the log files.
Before my 300GIG drives I used to run 2-120GIG drives
and had the same problem. An occasional reboot fixed it.
I got new drives and I still have some issue?
Any thoughts on something to try? Thanks.

be a software doing this and keep an eye on it. then i

Rsync locking up. HP/UX 11.0
...ew mirror, and send them
to the out of state server. It's pretty strait forward, and already
working. I would just like to impliment rsync instead of my current
method of finding changed files and sending them.
The amount of data rsync has to search through to find changed files is
about 120gig. My pipe to the out of state server is 6 T1's (partial T3)..
Anyway, not all of the 120gig gp over every time, its usually around
5-10gig worth of changes per mirror split.
My Problems:
1) rsync sits forever (2-10 minutes) processing a large file before it
even starts to send it or the c...

Pentium M in desktop system.
...a Pentium 4 M 2.8Ghz.
I put the Pentium M in my desktop and it boots fine and runs fine, yet I
have only been running it for about 30 minutes and shut it down.
I have now run it for a complete 2 days without lock ups or anything.
I have just been letting it idle, although I did do a defrag of a 120Gig hard drive which the hard drive was thoroughly fragged. So that was the first intensive thing done to my desktop with the pentium M processor.
I runs at a cool 24 degress C.
I did read that some laptops were socket 479 but i double checked my laptop and it is definitely socket 478. Both my deskto...

Any advice on speeding this up. The windows servers that we have are
doing faster transfers. I need to pull between 50-120Gig files off my
samba server and at this speed it is making me look bad.
Thanks for any help.

Anyone using an Intel Atom ?
Just built myself a little test server with an Atom 230 processor in it
and am quite impressed with it so-far.
Wondering is anyones used one in anger for a VoIP platform?
I'm after something with a bit more oomph than the VIAs I'm currently
using that I can use in a small box (mini ATX size) without going
full-blown Xeons, etc.
Cheers,
Gordon

Please Help FreeBSD 4.5 and XP
All I will try to keep this short but I can't get any of my windows boxes to
join the domain they include winXP, win2k, win9x.
Server FreeBSD 4.5 Samba from Ports 2.2.2
Celery 400 with 512 meg of ram 120gig of Raid 5 U2W drives
I added the machine names to samba in freebsd you must use vipw because
there is no adduser plus it has a hard time with the $ at the end of the
machine name.
Then I created the smbpasswd like such
Smbpasswd -a -m machine_name
Then I get machine name added.

External Backup Systems?
Hey everyone,
My home server just had a disk failure a few weeks ago and like a lot of
people I haven't ever really made backups on a regular basis. So I was
looking into backup solutions which will save me from this situation
again.
Now I have Bacula setup, and backing up my files onto my home server.
Although this works great, I have one issue: The disk in my server was
the one that
