11TB ext4 filesystem - filesystem alternatives?
Hi All. I have a CentOS server: CentOS 5.6 x86_64 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5.centos.plus e4fsprogs-1.41.12-2.el5.x86_64 which has a 11TB ext4 filesystem. I have problems with running fsck on it and would like to change the filesystem because I do not like the possibility of running long fsck on it, it's a production machine. Also I have some problems with running fsck (not enough RAM, problem with scratch_files option) and if th...

ZFS on a 11TB HW RAID-5 controller
Hello all, I am a complete newbie to OpenSolaris, and must to setup a ZFS NAS. I do have linux experience, but have never used ZFS. I have tried to install OpenSolaris Developer 134 on a 11TB HW RAID-5 virtual disk, but after the installation I can only use one 2TB disk, and I cannot partition the rest. I realize that maximum partition size is 2TB, but I guess the rest must be usable. For hardware I am using HP ProLiant DL180G6, 12 1TB disks connected to P212 controller in RAID-5. Could...

Sluggish server with big array
...it Ethernet (rev 10) 05:00.0 RAID bus controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID SAS 2208 [Thunderbolt] (rev 01) I have KVM/QEMU running 3 VMs: 2 stored in the 500 gigs array and one on the 11 TB array. I have a couple of samba shares from the 11 TB array (all of them are on the 11TB array). The strange behavior is that if i "ls -al /home/data", i have to wait 7-8 seconds to see the output. If i do a simple ls, output is instantaneous. I see about the same delay when i access the samba shares from the server (related ?). I don't know where to start with thi...

Directory Structure
Hi Folks, i have a question about how to build a good directory and file structure, just to get the best performance out of the ocfs2. I want to put a large amount of pictures and videos on the LUN so it?s very mixed up between small and large files. There will be about 11TB of Files on the Lun. So how many directory?s and subdirectorys are a good value to create and how many files am i allowed to put in before ocfs2 is slowing down. thanks & greetings Georg

OT supermicro server chassis?
Does anyone have a supermicro 942i server chassis? I'm trying to figure out if it has a true nine 5.25" drive bays, or if the one occupied by the 3.5" caddy is special / crippled. What I want to do is install three of the supermicro 5x3 hot swap backplanes and I'm gunshy about buying one site unseen. Thanks! Gordon

btrfs-convert processing time
Hi, I''m trying to convert two ext4 FS to btrfs, but I''m surprised by the time needed to do that conversion. The first FS is on a 500GiB block device, and btrfs-convert is running since more than 48h : root 1978 25.6 47.7 748308 732556 ? D Feb18 944:44 btrfs-convert /dev/vg-backup/backup The second is on a 340GiB block device, and the processing time is similar

XFS : Taking the plunge
Hi All, I have been trying out XFS given it is going to be the file system of choice from upstream in el7. Starting with an Adaptec ASR71605 populated with sixteen 4TB WD enterprise hard drives. The version of OS is 6.4 x86_64 and has 64G of RAM. This next part was not well researched as I had a colleague bothering me late on Xmas Eve that he needed 14 TB immediately to move data to from an
