single stream performance issue, Win2K, WinXP, Samba 3.2.5-4lenny7 (Debian Lenny)
...stream out of my Samba server over my 100FDX switched network either from Win2K or WinXP (I don't have a *nix client to test with). The network is idle during testing. Via FTP on these Win machines to/from the same filesystem (100GB XFS) as the Samba share I consistently get just a shade over 11MB/s. However, if I launch two simultaneous file copy streams from Windows Explorer or from the command line, I hit the 11MB/s I see via FTP. Interestingly, if I launch a file copy with the source file being on one smb share on the server, and the destination being another smb share (separate filesy...

performance transfer (samba VS ftp)
Hi folks :-) situation: debian stable (samba version 2:3.2.5-4lenny9) from clients by ftp the transfer of huge file is about 10/11Mb/s (with an ethernet 10/100) by samba came 5/6Mb/s is it correct? In smb.conf I don't have any "strange"options: thanks Pol domain master = yes preferred master = yes os level = 65 workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios name = name Server String = name #wins support = yes wins server =...

[PATCH] Persistent grant maps for xen blk drivers
...attempting a DoS, by supplying fresh grefs, causing the Dom0 kernel from to map excessively. This is currently set to 256---the maximum number of entires in the ring. As the number of inflight requests <= size of ring, 256 is also the maximum sensible size. This introduces a maximum overhead of 11MB of mapped memory, per block device. In practice, we don''t typically use about 60 of these. If the guest exceeds the 256 limit, it is either buggy or malicious. We treat this in one of two ways: 1) If we have mapped < BLKIF_MAX_SEGMENTS_PER_REQUEST * BLKIF_MAX_PERS_REQUESTS_PER_DEV pages...

UEFI syslinux PXE boot issues
...ed the 6.04 version. I replaced the syslinux.efi file only, and I got a lot more success. I symlinked the pxelinux.cfg dir and images so it could find the files it needed. Then I got the prompt, I typed "install" to trigger that menu item and it transferred the vmlinuz file (14sec for 11MB). Then the initrd (47MB), which takes a long time, but does not ever show the "ok", even after the transfer was complete (as far as I could tell from the TFTP server), which takes more than a minute. after some seconds of nothing happening, it just reboots... Can anyone help met out...

Uploading files > 10mb using InstantRails 1.0 configuration.
Hi, I''m using InstantRails 1.0 (rails 1.0 and ruby 1.8.4). When I try to upload a video file ~11MB, IE just hangs on me. Seems like WEBrick hangs too and I can''t connect from another IE. I end up manually killing WEBrick. Would anybody know the problem here? I had to increase my mysql max_packet_size parameter in order to upload in the first place so mysql doesn''t seem to b...

Samba 4.1.6 strange read performance issue.
...suse 13.1 with all updates. Samba is 4.1.6. smb.conf doesn't have anything special in it, haven't played around with the socket options. The server is a Xen host, samba is running on the host, not the guest. Writes to server are quick, 125MB/sec. Reads are slow, sometimes starting at 11MB/sec, but I have found a strange way of making them go faster. On the server over ssh, I open a 'vim'. I then hit Ctrl-C to get the escape prompt from vim and the read speed instantly doubles, hit it again, the speed maxes out at 85MB/sec. Watching top, the CPU usage by smbd starts at 6%,...

is there a bandwidth limit per file?
...te files without problem. But my bandwith seems to be limited somehow. When i copy one file i get a nearly constant transfer rate of about 6.8 MB/s (read and write). Do i copy two files in parallel i get a total transfer rate of about 10MB/s (again for read and write) with 3 files it is even around 11MB/s. Why i can't reach this transfer rate with just one file? It is the same from both windows pc. I benchmarked my network around 11.5MB/s are reached using netio (Win-Win,Win-Debian). The HDDs are reaching 60MB/s with hdparm -t /dev/sd? I search for such an issue, but didn't find somethin...

Client link utilization
Hello everybody! This is probably going to be a classic question but I cannot find a decent answer on net. I have samba server set up and the following things work flawlessly: - iperf shows 92% link utilization - FTP/SCP/HTTP transfers work in 10MB/s range. However, when I mount samba share with linux client (mount.cifs) the link utilization cannot bypass cca 33%. Transfer speeds constantly

Painfully slow NetApp with databas
Hello, We have long running problem with NetApp filers. When we connect server to the filer sequential read performance is ~70MB/s. But once we run database on the server seq read performance drops to ~11MB/s. That's happening with two servers. One is running Oracle another - MySQL. During speed tests database load is very light (less than 1MB/s of reads and writes). During the tests NetApp was serving only these two servers. What could be causing such slowdown and overall slow read performance...
