Directory listing with 11k files very slow to list
Hello, I have a samba server which has a directory with 11764 files. (The program stores information about jobs and each job has 3 files, nothing I can do about it). When I do a listing of that directory using smbclient, it takes 15+ seconds to complete, same thing on Windows XP. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can speed this up? I did a log on log level 10, it is accessible at

read.csv error: invalid multibyte string
...egrees", readLines(PATH))) read.csv(PATH, header=T, as.is=T) This alternate approach is successful. This leads to two questions: 1. Why can readLines handle that character string whereas read.csv cannot? 2. Reading the text connection is slow - it takes ~ 11 seconds to read a file with 11K rows. I edited the file to replace to offending character with "degree". read.csv reads the 11K rows of the new file in a fraction of a second. Can someone explain why reading the text connection is so much slower than reading a file? Dennis Dennis Fisher MD P < (The "P Less T...

-b flag at low sample rates?
As the subject implies, my question is: is it possible to use the -b (or -M) flag at non-44K sample rates? I'm working with an application that is trying to optimize for very small audio filesize. I found that downsampling to 11K and then using q0 gives high compression, but won't seem to drop below 64kbps or so. It seems like the combination of downsampling, then reducing to 30kps would compress things even further, but I'm not sure if this is allowed. Any ideas? <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http:/...

[Fwd: Icecast2 and ices]
...Tell us what you want to do about it, and we'll try to help. OK. I've gotten everything running with one problem. I'd like to downsample a live stream. It's talk, and I'd like to squeeze 200 connections into a 5Mbps pipe. I'm currently able to do a 24K mono stream, but 11K would do the trick. I've seen references to <downsample>, but can't find any hard documentation on it (other than a couple sample configs and a statement about how it might not work with live streams). Any tips? -- Drew Bertola <drew@drewb.com> --- >8 ---- List archives...

how to improve sound file quality?
We have recorded wav files with 44k, 22k, 16k, 11k and 8k Asterisk does not accept these wav files. I used sox input.wav output.gsm to get them to work. However, the only the 8k file did convert and the quality is poor. How can I improve the quality? bye Ronald

GSEA package error
Dear R gurus I?m trying to use the GSCA package to a series of microarray data (prostate cancer normal vs tumor (29 vs 29 paired)) but I?m running into some problems. I have a matrix (named /data_final/) with 11k rows(genes) and 60 cols (58 samples (29N vs 29T), GO IDs, KEGG IDs). I also have a separate vector GS with the GO IDs mapped to genes (no duplicate genes but multiple IDs per gene like in col 59) However when I try to run: /singleDC(data_final, group=c(1:29,30,58), GSdefList = GS, nperm = 3, perm...

Two recent issues
...ntly I've come across two issues. The first issue unfortunately I have little information on, mail_debug hasn't provided anything useful either (in fact it looks like the login request that fails doesn't even get logged at all). During the morning rush of email, this server has around 11k mailboxes on it, it *appears* that one of the auth processes dies resulting in "dovecot: imap-login: Error: read(imap) failed: Connection reset by peer" errors followed by "dovecot: imap-login: Internal login failure ..." in the logs. I've yet to get any useful debugging in...

Cannot allocate vector of size
