Questions about qcow2 file size management
Hi all. I have a few questions regarding the qcow2 format. 1/ Allocated size vs. file size When creating a VM, I indicated a size of 10 G. $ls -lsh 7,7G -rw------- 1 libvirt-qemu libvirt-qemu 11G oct. 14 10:04 prod.qcow2 The allocated size is lesser than max size. Alright. I think I more or less grab the difference between allocated size and file size, but I'm not sure I get the point of the auto-grow feature of qcow2. Can someone confirm that if I have, say, a 60Go partition, I ca...

Rcpp and mclapply
Dear all, I have an R script that uses Rcpp, and I have been trying to parallelize it using mclapply (I tried with the multicore and the parallel library) Sometimes (not always, interestingly), the CPU use for each core drops, usually so that the total over all cores reaches 100%, i.e., as fast as if using just one single core fully. I tried my code directly from within emacs, and also using a

LevelOne WPC-0301 11g Wireless CardBus
Hello, I bought a LevelOne WPC-0301 11g Wireless CardBus Adapter today. According to the box it is "v6". The ral(4) man- page mentions only v2, but that one is ancient and can't be bought anymore. So, enabling the debug sysctl gives this in dmesg: cardbus0: Expecting link target, got 0x0 cardbus0: <network, ethernet&...

Oracle Instant Client 11g on CentOS 5 (32-bit) workaround
I downloaded the RPMs from the Oracle web site (otn.oracle.com) and successfully installed them on my C5 box, but the sqlplus client software would not run properly. After a few iterations with sealert, I finally got a handle on what was happening. It turns out that most of the shared libraries Oracle installs need to have their SElinux file context modified to allow relocation. Here's

real HDD usage of XEN images
Hello, i am creating my XEN VM with virt-install (see below). When I create new images i do first an "df -h" to see if there is still enough space left on the drive. Are the XEN images pre allocated or does XEN only use that space that really is used by the VM inside the image? I know have the Problem that an "du -h" inside my /VM folder gives me nearly a higher number that

Server Build Example
I'm coming from the Fedora arena and I want to build, what I would call, a production server. I'm to the point where I don't want to upgrade every 6-months. I'm running Oracle DB 11g, a Tomcat/JBoss hybrid application server, and several other server type functions. Is there an example of building a server that boots into init3? ath(4) and 802.11g speed
...39;t contain a list of media nor mediaopt settings that can be used. Some are detailed down in EXAMPLES, but there's no comprehensive list. (As well, and this is minor, the speeds are explicitly listed for 802.11a and 802.11b, but just labelled as 'appropriate' transmit speeds for 802.11g. 'Twould be nice to have them all uniformly listed.) Secondly, I was under the impression that 802.11g could support up to 54Mbps. Does FreeBSD not provide support for speeds that fast (ISTR it did at one point)? # ifconfig ath0 ath0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTI...

Load at 5, no CPU I/O or swap in use
We are currently running CentOS 5 update 4 on a Dell R910 server 16 cores/32 hyperthreaded with 64GB of memory. It is our main Oracle 11g DB server for one of our customers and is attached to an MD 3000 storage array. We are having a load averaging around 5 but see no swap in use, CPUs are pretty much idle and no I/O wait. We have Oracle dataguard turned on in transactional mode. I've checked everything that I can think of, there...

Hard(?) lock when reassociating ath with wpa_supplicant on RELENG_7
I seem to be able to lock my machine by going into wpa_cli and asking it to 'reassoc'. The reason for question mark after "hard" is that debug information (caused by wlandebug and athdebug) is being printed on the console. The only way to get machine's attention is to hold power button for 8 seconds. Note: manual reassociation is just the handy way to reproduce the problem
