Too many files
...9;m the newest in this list (I think), and I have a big problem, I'm usin linux 2.2.2-15 with samba 2.0.7, everything is right but there is one thing there I cannot resolve. Look: I have a directory called A, shared as A, and in A there is 210000 (yes two hundred and ten thousand) files, with 115K each one, there is biggers and smallers, but.... And when I try see one of these files I wait 8 minutes. Considerations: No I cannot divide then into subdirectories. Yes it's too much files to ext2fs suport quickly... TKS in advance!!!!

"busy hang" on e2fsck (on a ext3 partition)
...oesn't seem to be a dedicated e2fsprogs list, so this was the next-best place I could find. I don't place much faith in the sourceforge forums..) The filesystem in question is a 480 gig ext3 partition, on a hardware RAID5 controller. It's approximately 90% full, with something like 115K files. Kernel 2.4.20-pre4, on a Duron 900. As I type this, e2fsck has used up ~280 minutes of CPU time and has a RSS size of 78 megs. It's been in stage2 for at least three hours with not so much as a flicker of disk activity. (strace is similarly quiet) Initially, I gave up on waiting the...

"wbinfo -u" considered harmful towards Winbindd...
Our setup: Windows AD realm with ~115K users (and numerous groups etc) FreeBSD servers with Samba 4.7.6 and Samba 4.9.3 (both show the same growth) We just noticed that one of the ‘winbindd’ daemons on the servers seems to be growing and growing forever. A bit of detective work pointed us at the “wbinfo -u” command being that culprit....

*samba3 ports
Dear netters, My linux box is installed with samba 3.0.0 and joined with NT domain (w2k based). Samba are working fine, until I filter the incoming traffic using iptables (v1.2.7a) on default RedHat 9 kernel 2.4.20-8, using these rules: [root@Bhp-0m03-0472 root]# cat /etc/sysconfig/iptables # Generated by iptables-save v1.2.7a on Sun Oct 12 19:36:36 2003 *filter :INPUT DROP [0:0] :FORWARD ACCEPT

OT: PRI costs in US
Hello! Several of my customers would like to add a backup to their Internet connection. ISDN is a good solution: decently fast for a dial-up-type connection, yet still faily affordable. While I was at it, I decided to look at a couple of more creative telephone service options to possibly improve their service or lower costs at the same time. These customers range from having just a

hopeless - smb over bridged firewall
Dear List! I use a shorewall 2.0.8 on a Debian sarge system. I use a DSL connection to the Internet (ppp0 - eth1 to the modem) and a bridge to the local lan. The bridged config i''ve made with bridge.html from the shorewall site. The Bridge is between local net and a openvpn tap device. This works. I ccan make tunnels, and a can make a lot of things through the firewall. I can get a list
