"live" stream online
hi,
there is a low bitratestream available for testing. it's around 40kbps and
it sounds really bad, because it's 11khz stereo :).

Downsampling
It is commonly said here that if I want to make AM radio-quality
stuff at very low bitrates, a good way is to downsample.
I downsampled a song to 11025Hz mono and encoded with -q 0,
the result is about 18kbps and is at least radio quality.
The downsampler I used is from Edinburgh speech tools, named
ch_wave. `sox' performs terribly, so I didn't use it.
However, I heard some unpleasant sound at relatively high
frequencies in the *downsample...

Speex for PDA
...however the encoding time is very slow - 10 seconds of
speech takes aprox 3 minutes to encode.
Even though the target architecture is significantly
less powerfull than a standard PC, I am trying to
figure out why it is this slow. Does speex use
floatpoint calculations?
The input raw data rate is 11025Hz but I don't think
this should make a difference (or does it?). I am
using VC++6 as the compiler with Handheld SDK.
Thanks for your help

[Flac-users] Re: settings for tighter compression than -8?
Early this past week, Miroslav Lichvar suggested for me:

Thank you again, Miroslav. I tried that, and it took almost two full
days (surprisingly, Windows ME stayed up that long without crashing) to
re-encode the entire set on my 266-MHz machine. After all, in the help

need speech and music in one
...as lectures and music.
I have many speeches that are 60 to 90 minutes in
length and would like to compress them as much as
possible.
I have one in mp3 format with the following specs:
Size: 13603893 bytes
Header found at: 0 bytes
Length: 3733 seconds
MPEG 2.5 layer 3
29kbit (VBR), 142925 frames
11025Hz Mono
CRCs: No
This 13mb file has very acceptable voice quality and
plays for over 100 minutes I think. The vbr bounces
between 8 and rarely 32 kbit.
I believe that even 8khz Mono would be satisfactory
for such voice but my understanding is that ogg
doesn't go that low. Now that speex has jo...

Response to Ogg Vorbis comments
...bit rate ! so I fully disagree here with your 'golden ear' assumption
The Xiph.org Vorbis code is all VBR, but it's not totally free-reigning
VBR. If you try to encode some samples at 128k, it might throw you down
to 32k if it can't reasonable do so (try sox'ing a .wav down to 11025Hz
and then encoding to see what I mean). I doubt any of the encoders
currently out there are really producing CBR-like files. The Vorbis
encoder will be capable of doing so, but it's not our first priority. I
originally thought it was going to be much more important for streaming,
but apparent...

You don't have to have any doubts about the other codecs. Just enco...

Ogg Player Code
Hello,
In one of my recent assignments, I was asked to develop a ogg player.
I am not able to find the right repository of the source code. There are few repositories on vorbis but I am not clear which one is the right one for Windows environment.
If somebody has successfully compiled any ogg player ever, his ideas will be helpful to me.
In one of the code set, I was able to compile the
