Panic when ZFS pool goes down?
...(without ssh) to keep backups of the stuff in the main pool. The main pool is replicated across 2 arrays on the SAN and we have multipathing and it''s quite robust.
However I don''t want my mail server going DOWN if the non-replicated pool goes down.
I tested with a fully-patched 10u4 system and this panic still occurs. I don''t have at this moment a Nevada system to test because that system got pulled apart and it''ll be a few days before I can put something together again. Anyone have the current scoop?
Thanks!

security = user, LDAP, and adding users to ACLs
...place in my environment aside from remedying this problem. Is
there some alternative to enable this feature, or method of setting up
winbind that is innocuous in my environment while maintaining "security
= user"?
Background on the Environment:
I am running Samba 3.0.25c on Solaris 10u4 with "security = user". I
am using the vfs object "zfsacl" to enable ACL support on my zfs
filesystem. We use LDAP as a password backend, which also stores
sambaSIDs for every user. SIDs and unix UIDs are synchronized across
all the samba servers because they all use th...

ZIL controls in Solaris 10 U4?
Is it true that Solaris 10 u4 does not have any of the nice ZIL controls
that exist in the various recent Open Solaris flavors? I would like to
move my ZIL to solid state storage, but I fear I can''t do it until I
have another update. Heck, I would be happy to just be able to turn the
ZIL off to see how my NFS on ZFS performance is effected before spending
the $''s. Anyone

Performance issue-Wine 0.9.60 under Solaris
I have tested Wine under Solaris 10u4, Solaris 10u5, and OpenSolaris 2008.05, and all three exhibit this same issue.
exactly every two seconds there is a slight pause or 'hitch' in graphics output. It is mostly noticable (and crippling) in games. Raising process priority with nice helps but does not completely alleviate it....

Charset problem only on redirected folder Desktop.
Hi,
We're currently using Samba server version 3.0.28 running on a Solaris
10u4 box.
We share users's home directories between Unix and Windows clients and
have to specify the smb.conf parameter unix charset to iso-8859-15 (or
so-8859-1) to ensure correct names for files and folders (containing
accents) from Windows and Unix.... everything is ok :
Windows Explorer looks...

SMC Webconsole 3.1 and ZFS Administration 1.0 - stacktraces in snv_b89
...ent SUNWzfsgr and SUNWzfsgu packages from older Solarises (x86/sparc, snv_77/84/89, sol10u3/u4), and directly substituting the zfs.jar file, but these actions resulted in either the same error or crash-and-restart of SMC Webserver.
I didn''t yet try installing an older SUNWmco* packages (a 10u4 system with SMC 3.0.2 works ok), I''m not sure it''s a good idea ;)
The system has JDK 1.6.0_06 per default, maybe that''s the culprit? I tried setting it to JDL 1.5.0_15 and web-module zfs refused to start and register itself...

SAN arrays with NVRAM cache : ZIL and zfs_nocacheflush
Hi,
I read some articles on solarisinternals.com like "ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide" on http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide . They clearly suggest to disable cache flush http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide#FLUSH .
It seems to be the only serious article on the net about this subject.
Could someone here state on this

OpenSolaris ZFS NAS Setup
If it''s of interest, I''ve written up some articles on my experiences of building a ZFS NAS box which you can read here:
http://breden.org.uk/2008/03/02/a-home-fileserver-using-zfs/
I used CIFS to share the filesystems, but it will be a simple matter to use NFS instead: issue the command ''zfs set sharenfs=on pool/filesystem'' instead of ''zfs set

IO probes and forcedirectio
Hi,
I''m working on some performance analysis with our database and it seems that when the file system (UFS) is mounted with forcedirectio, the IO probe are not triggered when an I/O event occurs.
Could you confirm that ? If so, why ?

Solaris DomU HVM Network issues
Hi,
I''m running Nevada 75a configured as dom0. I added a domU HVM running
Nevada 75a, on a Sun X4600 with 8 ADM Dual cores. I can get the domU
installed and configured, however, I can not get any network
connectivity. I followed the steps accoding to documents on Open
Solaris. I also followed some of the threads of the list to verify the
configuration, but I can not fix the

ZFS Performance Issue
This may not be a ZFS issue, so please bear with me!
I have 4 internal drives that I have striped/mirrored with ZFS and have an application server which is reading/writing to hundreds of thousands of files on it, thousands of files @ a time.
If 1 client uses the app server, the transaction (reading/writing to ~80 files) takes about 200 ms. If I have about 80 clients attempting it @ once, it can
