smbfs issue
...ve done more testing.
I am getting some seriously slow speeds on a server using smbfs (not Samba
Server). I'm using a Linux server and mounting Windows 2000 Server shares to
it. In my test, the W2K server is on the same local subnet with the Linux
server. I'm getting a little better than 10MByte per minute transfering files
from the shared mount point to another directory on the Linux server. The
Linux server is:
SuSE9
Proliant DL380
RAID 5 w/ 3200 HW RAID Controller
1G RAM
Intel 100 3163 NIC
I also have a RH 8 server on the same subnet. A similar test there yielded
better results. A 1...

CWRsync & DeltaCopy
Hi everybody!
I don't ask this question together with my previous ones, because it is a new theme.
I also wanted to backup files from a Windows client to a Linux Server. For testing I transfered a 512MB file with a bandwidth of 10Mbyte/s.
So when I run the rsync command from the Linux machine and backup files from a mounted folder, it takes about 145 sec.
But running the same command with CWRsync and DeltaCopy it takes 545 sec!! With a CPU load (on the Windows machine) of 75% to 90%! In the task manager this CPU load is used by...

Libvirt NAT-based network 2x-4x faster than Libvirt routed network?
...-based network is faster
than a libvirt routed network?
I would guess that the routed network would be the fastest one in all
cases, but I'm seeing the opposite in my setup. On a 100mbit internet
connection, the routed network tops at 4mbyte/sec, while the nat-based
network goes all the way to 10mbyte/sec. I've spend the last 6 hours
on trying to figure out the cause of this, changing settings,
reinstalling the system, but the problem persists and I can't find the
cause of it.
It is a clean and fairly simple setup:
- Clean installation of CentOS 5.5
- Installation of kvm+libvirt+virt-ma...

Question about putting vm in blkio cgroup
...ho "8:0 $disk_io" > /dev/cgroup/blkio/$alias/blkio.throttle.read_bps_device
echo "8:0 $disk_io" > /dev/cgroup/blkio/$alias/blkio.throttle.write_bps_device
For example I write:
8:0 10485760 to /dev/cgroup/blkio/$alias/blkio.throttle.*_bps_device
So there should be limit to 10Mbyte/s to acces to /dev/sda
But when I run hdparm -t /dev/vda or dd to test limits I receive value
~ 70 Mbyte/s

[Bug 9660] New: rsync --daemon --bwlimit does not work on server side
...dBy: mopp at gmx.net
QAContact: rsync-qa at samba.org
Accroding to the help rsync --daemon -h the daemon should work with --bwlimit.
Unfortunately --bwlimit does not work.
It only works as a client option, but not on the server side:
# rsync --daemon --bwlimit=100
I'm transferring a 10MByte file over network.

ext3 + fs > 2Tbyte
Hi list
this is actually a problem on a debian system but I thought you might
be interested to hear of it and perhaps can offer some help.
I have a woody box (dell pe750, dual cpu) running a kernel from
backports.org (debian 'testing' packages built on a 'stable' box).
The kernel version is 2.6.7-1.backports.org.1.
This host is hooked up to an Apple Xserve RAID with a 2.3Tbyte

Rsync Throughput issues
I am using Rsync between a Redhat Linux box and an AIX RS600. We have
a about 30gb of database we need to sync to a backup server. Sounds
good, right? The problem is that Rsync is so slow when we do the
initial dump. We have files that are 1 - 5gb. It takes around 14-20
hours to Rsync the file structure, which means our daily backup will
miss that days data because we are waiting for the data
