Samba on Two networks
I'm trying to set up a 100Base-T network on top of my exisiting 10Base-T network. The 100Base-T network is between a few hosts, but those hosts are also on the 10Base-T network. Here's a little diagram: 10Base-T 100Base-T ------------------------------------------------------- 128.173.1.1 DCSERVER | (NT PDC...

Off Topic: Dead GS BudgeTone-100
Hi everyone, This is off topic and is for GS technical support really but it seems that there are a lot of Budge Tone 100/101/102 users out there. I've got a Budge Tone-100 (101 - without the extra 10base ethernet connetion?) here. I changed the configuration through its web based interface and I clicked the reboot link. But then something went wrong and ever since then it doesn't boot up correctly. It starts up and the LCD stays blue backlit and the keypad flashes in groups of five (flas...

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even dont know if it can be a samba-problem. When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice versa I get bad performance: 1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

Samba with a Win9x network and RoadRunner
Hi everyone...I'm at a dead stop setting up Samba, so let me jump right into the problem: First, the setup: I have a RH7.3 box and a W98 laptop. The RH box also has a W2k Pro partition. We have them on a 4-port 10base-T hub along with our RoadRunner cable modem. Now on to the problem: As most of you are already aware, RR uses DHCP to assign IP addresses to client machines at boot time. This seems to be causing Samba to have problems resolving the machine names. When I get both machines up and running and try...

Time Out's - Samba to Win95/98
cI'm New to the list. I've been beating at Samba (the one shipped with redhat 5.2) for days I can get the server to show up in network neighborhood I can ping it. If I wait long enough (few minutes) I can finally get it to respond to both ftp and telnets. it's on a 10base-t cat5 configuration with just the server and the one w95 creating traffic. If I double click the server name in Network Neigh. it hourglasses and sits for about 3 minutes and says "Network Too Busy" If I go to a run box and use either it's IP address or the server name itself (full...

Maximum tollerable lag/jitter for IAX2 w/o j itterbuffer enabled?
Unfortunatly no on both counts. The arrangement right now has: PSTN Trunks & Stations <-> Nortel Norstar#1 <-CT1-> Asterisk#1 <-IAX2-> Asterisk#2 <-CT1-> Nortel Nortstar#2 <-> Stations The Asterisk boxes provide Voicemail to their sites Norstars and intersite calls over IAX. Local Voicemail works flawlessly at each site but there have been reports of PSTN calls

Performance Problems
I've been introducing a local company to the benefits of Linux and Samba, things have been going really well until I tried to provide some file sharing for 3 people on the Lan. Setup: RH 5.0 on a P5-133 running a small intranet with DHCP, file server, and local / remote mail services Samba 1.9.18 (not sure of patch level) I setup a directory accessible by only 3 users and copied a 2.4Meg

can''t figure out nat''ing by port
...ng ip to do multisource policy routing or two connections to the internet. I have a linksys wrt54gs route which connects two machines by wire through the switch and three computers through wireless. For the most part his portion of the set-up works fine. One of the boxes attached to the router by 10base-t also has a second interface card which attaches to an adsl modem using pppoe. My problem is on that second machine. I cannot figure out how to forward packets by incoming or destination port to the first machine for some services which it handles such as mail/dns/ftp.... I have read through qu...

Once more into the breech (browsing problems)
...osis.txt work fine. Any ideas anyone? We have no real network analysis tools, etc. Are we just clueless, or does this SMB/CIFS stuff just suck the big schween? Can a network card appear to work but send out crap that confuses other machines? We're in the process of converting over from 10Base2 to 10Base-T; is it possible for these kinds of problems to be caused by flaky coax connectors, bad cable, etc? It seems to me that if it was really hardware related, then the TCP/IP layer wouldn't work either. I'm going to try some of the samba config parameters (name resolve order,...

copying files samba - win95: drops dead in the middle
When copying files from the Samba server to a Windows95 client or vv, the speed varies dramatically. When I try to copy the same (20MB) file 10 times some times it copies in less than 10 seconds. The next time it takes allmost a minute. And most worrying of all quite often the copying just stops halfway in the middle. The progress bar in Windows just stops. The traffic on the NIC also stops (the

Network\Snom phone oddity
I have a client that has 5 Snom 320s. 4 work great, one does not. I upgrade the firmware to the latest (6.5.2) and the problem goes away, but then comes back a couple days later. There is a slight packet loss on the phone (about 1%), though there is no packet loss on any of the other phones. I determine the packet loss by the Linux command "ping -f -c 10000 192.168.2.10". Linux and Printing via smbprint
Hi there Looking at the archives I didn't find a solution to the following problem we have here: Printing from our linux-server (wagner) to an intel printserver (PS652D8F) doesn't work. Here's the stuff we know/tried: wagner:~ # smbclient -L //PS652D8F -N added interface ip=10.0.0.10 bcast=10.0.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Got a positive name query response from 10.0.0.40 ( 10.0.0.40

serious networking (em) performance (ggate and NFS) problem
...hat GEOM_GATE is less efficient with GigaBit (em) than NFS via TCP is. - em seems to have problems with MTU greater than 1500 - UDP seems to have performance disadvantages over TCP regarding NFS which should be vice versa AFAIK - polling and em (GbE) with HZ=256 is definitly no good idea, even 10Base-2 can compete - NFS over TCP with MTU of 16114 gives the maximum transferrate for large files over GigaBit Ethernet with a value of 17MB/s, a quarter of what I'd expect with my test equipment. - overall network performance (regarding large file transfers) is horrible Please, if anybody ha...

CentOS on Compaq Proliant Rackmount Servers
Greetings, Can anyone relate experience(s) installing CentOS on Compaq rack mount servers units please? Easy no problem, easy some issues, or ghastly do not do it under any circumstances... ;) Basically, I'm looking at some used/refurb dual PIII units and will run RAID on Compaq built in SCSI or is it easy to pop in some 3ware SATA in them? Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.
