[PATCH] drm/nouveau: kill nouveau_ttm_fault_reserve_notify handler to prevent useless buffer moves
I have no idea what this bogus restriction on placement is, but it breaks decoding 1080p
VDPAU at boot speed. With this patch applied I only need to bump the vdec clock to
get real-time 1080p decoding. It prevents a lot of VRAM <-> VRAM buffer moves.

Windows Media Player Crashes
...but went back to 1.2 thinking that may have caused the issue.
Any one have any ideas...
Reason I'm trying to use WMP is to play blu ray files, not the disc but files .mkv, i tried many other programs like gnome and vlc but they all play really choppy and freeze sometimes when i'm watching 1080p movies.
Any ideas on that?

Monitoring network traffic to a host
Background - I am having an issue with occassional pauses when streaming
high-bitrate media across my home network to my smart TV. I *suspect*
that the root cause is the (incredibly lame) 100 Mbps Ethernet interface
in the TV.
In order to confirm that the peak bitrate really does max out the 100
Mbps connection, I'd like to monitor the communication between my NAS
and the TV. The two

Is binary firmware still necessary for GTX660 card (NVE0 family) in order to use DRM and/or VDPAU video acceleration?
...o see any
"nouveau <pci id>: firmware: requesting nouveau/" in my kernel output.
Anyway VDPAU seems to work. If I call mplayer with "-vo vdpau -vc
ffmpeg12vdpau,...", I don't get any error message and my CPU load drops
from 30% to 7% for a recent mpeg transport stream 1080p video.
In conclusion, do I still need the firmware? Do the information given at
[1], [2] still apply or are they outdated?
Thank you, Matthias

Response to your questions about my suggestions i sent in yesterday
...?i also said this:Theora should have a feature
where when a user plays a video using the?Theora player, the video will
be compressed so the file size is smaller and??it will be faster to load.
The quality of the video should remain the same.??For example, some 2
hour 16:9 Widescreen High definition 1080p videos are??4Gigabytes in
size, so Theora should compress this 4GB video into 100MB??without losing
any quality.?Now for those that found this funny because?you think it's
impossible, well all i can say?is new technologies are coming out all the
time. 100 years ago they didn't even

CentOS 8 as guest
Hi all ,
I am running C7, and C8 as guest at this time. I noticed that when right
click on desktop, and select display on C8 - that the largest resolution I
get is 1080p, I am running a 4K monitor - is there a way to get higher
resolution in the Guest.
I am running with qemu 2.0.0
Thanks,
Jerry

just looked in my video library, largest file I see is for a multi-language
1080p MP4/x.264 version of Parasite, 2h 11m long, 10GB.
thats 1.3 MB/sec, or about 10 Mbit/sec. *easily* done on 100baseT.
is there any wireless between your server and the TV client ?
next largest file in 'recent' is The Irishman, also MP4 x.265 1080p, no
subtitles, english-only 5.1 AAC aud...

MyhtTV or Freevo or something else?
...ormation before proceeding to estimate the cost.
Which one of the Linux projects would you suggest and why? MythTV, Freevo or something else? Is CentOS good for such task or I should better use some more bleeding edge distribution like Fedora?
Also what are hardware requirements? I believe HD 1080p h264 movie playback will set the bar. Which Intel or AMD CPU is enough (but not too expensive) for that? And which video card is more suitable for such task.
HTPC would be connected to Panasonic LCD TV with VGA and HDMI inputs.
Thanks,
Mindaugas

confused with 2 boxes centos 5
Hi All,
I had a box centos5 AMD64 X2 4200+, Asus motherboard, Nvidia 7100 video
card, 512M,
when playing a video at 1080p it did well but had a couple times went
out of sync.
So amd dropped its price and I got a 5200+, gigabyte motherboard, Nvidia
7100 video card, 512M.
This FASTER system is actually slower. The video is WAY behind on sync.
I have looked at the X config they are the same.
I have the same mplayer v...

FFMEG2Threora Bug
...test release of
ffmpeg2theora and noticed some strange artifacts in the output video.
In areas which are very white small black marks appear. I was
transcoding the blender open movie "Big Buck Bunny" and its very
noticeable on the credits in particular. The source video was their
official 1080p .ogg download.
I have uploaded a screen grab of the problem. It appears worst in the
credits but if you look closely it is in the entire video.

I have included the ffmpeg2theora command I was running.

Can someone pass my suggestions onto the Theora developers?

optimization of theora contract job
...52x480 -aspect 16:9 -acodec libvorbis -ar 44100 -ac 2 -ab 64000 -v 0 -async 2 -
This would be a contract job hourly starting within a week, and would likely turn into an ongoing relationship for contracted work, as we will continue to push the envelope, starting with 480p, then 720p, and hopefully 1080p.
Please provide an approach to optimizing, hourly rate, and availability.
Thanks so much!
P.S. (I asked if it was appropriate to post a job on this mailing list from #theora irc, and got the nod that it was ok.)

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
...ng loss.
I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had
speculated that the quality difference between intra-only Theora video
(using the latest ptalarbvorm code) and, say, MJPEG video, wouldn't be
much. I decided to test this theory, and so I pulled down some real HD
1080p videos from the Xiph media site (http://media.xiph.org) and
decided to test intra-only Theora and MJPEG at 25Mbps with the test
clips. I used the encoder_example that's packaged with libtheora to
create the Ogg Theora files, while I used ffmpeg from SVN (could be a
few months old) to create th...
