(PR#10799) Assigning a sub-matrix from a data frame to a
Where precisely is the bug here? If you assign a list (d[,1:2] is a list: it is the whole data frame) to a numeric matrix you coerce the latter to mode list, and that is what happened. If we have the simpler version d <- data.frame(v1=1:2,v2=3:4) x <- matrix(0, 2, 2) x[] <- d it may be easier to see what happened. I think the problem is in your subject line: d[,1:2] is _not_ a

validates_length_of with char field
I am new to ruby/rails and am having a problem with validates_length_of. It seems to work fine on a varchar field, but when I try it on a char field the extra characters are silently truncated and the message appears that the record was successfully updated. How can I get my app to produce my error message instead? I''ve tried various variations, but here''s one of my tries:

...ths(time)=="Nov" dec <- months(time)=="Dec Now I can use for example mean(pr[jan]) to get the monthly average of precipitation (pr) for January. However, I cannot find how I can change the 365 day in a 360 day calendar for the 360-day data that I have (the 360-day calendar has 10799 days for the same 1961-2000 period). Is there anyone who can help me with this problem? Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Saskia van Pelt

Alas, you missed a serious bug in that same function. Patch attached to fix it and improve some comments. No more late night coding for me :) That leaves Path.cpp. Once that's done I can actually try and execute this stuff. Indexing Mail faster
Hi, I am trying to get faster search results on our webmail client(Roundcube). Besides using Lucene for FTS are there other options? Would having all mails indexed give fast results? Currently the time it takes to search 25,000mails is 4mins. If indexed how much faster are we looking at? Really appreciate if someone could advise about this. Thanks Kevin

Questions about results from PCAproj for robust principal component analysis
Hi. I have been looking at the PCAproj function in package pcaPP (R 2.4.1) for robust principal components, and I'm trying to interpret the results. I started with a data matrix of dimensions RxC (R is the number of rows / observations, C the number of columns / variables). PCAproj returns a list of class princomp, similar to the output of the function princomp. In a case where I can
