CentOS 5.5 does not recognise SAS drives with LSI 1068E Controller
I need to do a new CentOS net install on a new server having the Supermicro X7DVL-3 motherboard: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon1333/5000V/X7DVL-3.cfm Based on that info I assume the board having a "8x SAS Ports via LSI 1068E Controller". We received the server with 3 drives + 1 spare as hw RAID-5 preinstalled. During bootup I see that the drives are initialised and everything seems ok. The issue I am facing is that when trying to install CentOS no hard drives are recognised. I am a bit confused as others have re...

Installing CentOS 5.4 64bit on server with LSI SAS 1068E controller.
I'm trying to install CentOS 5.4 on a machine with a LSI SAS 1068E controller. I've googled all over the place and found a few different drivers for RHEL5 for it.. and tried a few of them.. Some will load, some complain that this isn't the correct version.. non of them work when it comes to showing Hard Drivers in the partition manager. The machine i...

CentOS 6, mptfusion software?
Hi, folks, Got an older Dell R410, with an LSI 1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08). It *appears* that a) trying MegaRaid, and b) from what I'm googling, that what I need are mptfusion-related packages. Unfortunately, yum shows me nothing available in base, epel, or rpmfusion. Am I looking for the wrong thing, or does anyone have a source (n...

Is LSI SAS3081E-R suitable for a ZFS NAS ?
According to various posts the LSI SAS3081E-R seems to work well with OpenSolaris. But I''ve got pretty chilled-out from my recent problems with Areca-1680''s. Could anyone please confirm that the LSI SAS3081E-R works well ? Is hotplug supported ? Anything else I should know before buying one of these cards ? Thanks, Arnaud

Xen4CentOS installation strangeness
Hi, I have a server with Supermicro X7DVL-3 (P9) motherboard, 16G ECC RAM and LSI SAS 1068e RAID controller. I installed CentOS 6.5 64bit on the machine without any problems, but after following the Xen setup steps at http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart which installed me the kernel 3.10.32-11.el6.centos.alt.x86_64, I encountered a problem: After "Starting certmonger [...

OT: LSI SAS1068e / Perc6/iR RAID Health
.... For 2950s I've only had to install sas_snmp-3.11-0003.i386.rpm from LSI to get rolling. I've tried installing parts from the MSM zip/tarball mess to install only the lsi_mrdsnmpd daemon (lsi_mrdsnmpagent). Replacement disks for Sun X4500
I am bumping this thread because I too have the same question ... can I put modern 3TB disks (hitachi deskstars) into an old x4500 ? If not, would the x4540 accept them ? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

PCI/VGA passthrough and function level reset (FLR)
...Intel NICs and various other HBAs support this mode. ----------------------- So there are other ways of resetting hardware to be used for passthrough than the FLR, namely d3d0, link and bridge. Does Xen support any of these reset methods? I may want for example to be able to pass through an LSI 1068E HBA or an Intel 82572 based NIC to a virtual machine. Robin.

test, and H/W
Hi, folks, This is a test post; to make it of interest, here's an issue you might want to be aware of, those with not brand new hardware. We've got a few Dell PE R415s. A 2TB b/u drive on one was getting full, so I went to replace it with a 3TB drive (a WD Red, not that it matters.) We got the system in '11. I built the drive - a GPT, 1 3TB partition, on an R320, from '12.

ZFS and FM(A)
Working on my ZFS Build, using a SuperMicro 846E1 chassis and an LSI 1068e SAS controller, I''m wondering how well FM works in OpenSolaris 2009.06. I''m hoping that if ZFS detects an error with a drive, that it''ll light up the fault light on the corresponding hot-swap drive in my enclosure and any attached JBOD enclosures. How would I go about t...

Grant table corruption with HVM guest
...on on a system and I''m hoping my symptoms will ring a bell with a member of the Xen developer community. The setup is Xen 4.0.0-RC2 (OpenSUSE 11.2 package) on a Nehalem system. The sole guest instance is 64bit FreeBSD running in HVM mode, a single vcpu, and a PCI passed-through LSI Logic 1068e SAS controller. FreeBSD is running netfront and blockfront PV drivers. After a few hours of operation, FreeBSD''s entire grant table (3 pages) is spammed with the pattern 0x5a5a5a5a. This problem has been replicated on multiple machines. The first assumption was a bug in the FreeBSD PV...

KVM vs ESXi
...g a rebuild of my home server and am tossing between VMware and KVM for this build. I already have experience with ESX, we use it at work, but I'm debating trying out KVM for a while. The server itself is a budget build using a Supermicro X8SAX board w/ i7-950 & 12GB RAM, LSI 3081 SAS RAID (1068e based), rolled into a NorcoTek 16 Bay SAS case. Not fancy but also decent enough for home use. I don't expect high performance out of this unit so unless the gear is hopelessly outclassed, I'm not in a position to entertain upgrading. Right now forking over $1000-$1500 on a $2000 system for...

Resliver making the system unresponsive
...or example, is more enterprisy hardware less susceptible to reslivers? This box is used for development VMs, but there is no way I would consider this for production with this kind of performance hit during a resliver. My hardware: Dell 2950 16G ram 16 disk SAS chassis LSI 3801 (I think) SAS card (1068e chip) Intel x25-e SLOG off of the internal PERC 5/i RAID controller Seagate 750G disks (7200.11) I am running Nexenta CE 3.0.3 (SunOS rawhide 5.11 NexentaOS_134f i86pc i386 i86pc Solaris) pool: data01 state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. CentOS Digest, Vol 74, Issue 31
...30. Re: Controlling the order of /dev/sdX devices? (Phil Schaffner) CentOS 5.4(final) 2.6.18-164el5PAE. I am trying to prevent removable USB and eSATA devices from occupying /dev/sdX devices ahead of a 3ware RAID controller. For example: at boot, if a USB drive and eSATA HDD (connected to an LSI 1068E onboard controller, reflashed in "IT" mode to handle hotplug devices) were both present, they would occupy devices /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, ahead of the RAID controller which ends up as /dev/sdd. As these are removable devices, they should normally get handled by custom udev script looking...
