buildworld with clang breaks because no cc
...rror
*** [buildworld] Error code 2
Stop in /asp/src.
My source is in /asp/src (symlinked from /usr/src also).
clang is set in /usr/local/etc/buildflags.conf.
I have disabled ccache while I try and work through this error - so it is
not a factor.

kldload uhci lockup
...slow downs to crawl/halt , it's on uhci
loading stage I suppose.
Best if somebody could pin this down
on their machine, as I don't have time
to debug this now/would have to alter
my configuration considerably.
best regards,

Suggest changing dirhash defaults for FreeBSD 9.2.
I have been experimenting with dirhash settings, and have scoured the internet
for other peoples' experience with it.
(I found the performance improvement in compiling has forestalled the need to
add an SSD drive. ;-)
I believe that increasing the following values by 10 would benefit most FreeBSD
users without disadvantage.
vfs.ufs.dirhash_maxmem: 2097152 to 20971520

libstdc++ not found by clang and base ld on 9-STABLE when building cmake c++ project
...was routinely building with clang for me just fine earlier
(as well as with gcc47 if told so).
I even checked some ancient git tags and I'm positive it's some change in
system, as they failed in the same way (no libstdc++ when linking).

Does svn-to-cvs still work? & How to use freebsd-update?
Hello,
it looks like updating source/ports via csup does not work for some
time. I was using for a long time simple command sequence
csup -h cvsup.freebsd.org /usr/share/examples/cvsup/stable-supfile
csup -h cvsup.freebsd.org /usr/share/examples/cvsup/ports-supfile
to update both source files and ports collection. For some (maybe five)
days there is nothing updated. Is svn-to-cvs stil working?

agp in kernel
After several years I replaced desktop and laptop and
wait for release to start fresh. On desktop I put nvidia
gt520. Forums say nvidia prop driver dislikes agp op-
tion in kernel and recommend removing it. Laptop is
sandy bridge with hd3000 integrated. Would I trigger
something if I delete agp from conf file in both cases?
Another issue bothers me also. RC version of amdtemp

How go back from X.Y-RELEASE-pZ to X.Y-RELEASE?
We are currently using cvs for both source and ports.
I have begun changing to portsnap for ports, and I
would also like to try changing at least some of our
servers to freebsd-update.
But all servers have been patched, using either RELENG_8_3
or RELENG_9_0 as cvs tag. I need to revert them to their
respective RELEASE to be able to use freebsd-update.
Complete reinstall from eg CD is not an

KMS/ drm2 i915 spamming sysctl
Are there any plans to stop hw.dri.0.info.i915_ringbuffer_data
from spamming sysctl?
You know, that you can actually use 'sysctl -a'.
Since some time, there is no longer /var/log/messages spam
for which I'm grateful.

9.1 file content
I'm quite happy to see 9.1 out and want to ask polite and
benevolent question:
regarding times on the site, are iso and img files the same
as 2 weeks ago? To remind noble readers. I installed on my
computers what was release at that time and got it up and
working perfectly. In other words, is it the same file?
Best regards and happy new year

FreeBSD 10-CURRENT and 9-STABLE snapshots
Hi,
A number of FreeBSD users have displayed interest in the availability
and testing of -STABLE and -CURRENT snapshot releases.
I have been working on generating snapshots regularly, and now would
like to announce their availability for those interested in testing.
Please note, as always with the -STABLE and -CURRENT branches, these
snapshots are not intended for production systems.

FreeBSD 9.1-PRERELEASE
Hi,
In this mailinglist I'm reading a lot about problems (re)compiling the system. At this moment I'm running:
"FreeBSD 9.1-PRERELEASE (ORAC) #0 r244047: Sun Dec 9 15:33:19 CET 2012" without problems.
Is it save to recompile the system with all patches?
Thanks

Rooting FreeBSD , Privilege Escalation using Jails (Pétur)
I read this (http://www.petur.eu/blog/?p=459) blog post today. It's
about that a remote user with root privilegs to a FreeBSD jail & user
privileges to the jails host machine can obtain root privileges on the
host machine.
Can someone confirm if this bugg/exploit works?

9.2-PRE: switch off that stupid "Nakatomi Socrates"
Hello,
I'd like to switch off this silly "Nakatomi Socrates" message which
reminds me on Linux and their childish naming schemes.
It is only cosmetics, but it bothers me whenever I switch on the laptop.
I guess there is a switch already prsent to have in the bootloader
config?
Thanks,
