Read TXT file with variable separation
Hi!
I have to import some TXT files into R, but the separation between the
columns are made with different blank spaces, but each file use the
same separation. Example:

SEBASTIAO 25
BAIRRO FILETO
01
00200338540000
The pattern is the same on each file.

Assigning a sequence to a subsetted data frame variable
...(at least for me) problem that I was hoping
one of you may know how to solve. I want to assign a sequence
to subsets of a variable in a data frame based on date.
The variable is 'SITE1' and the date is a unique day (DD) and
month (MM) combination. The sequence contains site numbers 101:104,
and each day-month combination takes four site numbers from that
sequence in an order dependent upon which site number is listed.
For example, I need a sequence of 101,102,103,104 if 101 is the
number listed, 102,103,104,101 if 102 is the number listed, 104,101,
102,103 if the 104 is the numbe...

A %nin% operator?
Sometimes I write code like this:
> qf.a <- subset(qf, pubid %in% c(104, 106, 107, 108))
> qf.b <- subset(qf, !pubid %in% c(104, 106, 107, 108))
and I get a little worried that maybe I've remembered the precedence rules
wrong, so I change it to
> qf.a <- subset(qf, pubid %in% c(104, 106, 107, 108))
> qf.b <- subset(qf, !(pubid %in% c(104, 106, 1...

Varying x-axes ticks
Dear R Users,
I have the following situations to plot.
x-values (times) : range from 0 to 104 (in weeks)
y-values (hazards) : range from 0 to 0.5
Now I want to make a plot of time versus hazards such
that in the time axis (i.e x-axis) the values 0-24 occupies
half of the axis and the values 25-104 ocupies the rest
of the axis.
In other words I want to emphasize on first 24...
