rsync and swapping
...hine (4 GIG ram centos 5.1) now begins to swap out more programs. Is there a way to reduce that swapping? I am running with echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness I simply mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/backup; mkdir /mnt/backup/month.day.year then rsync -a /home /mnt/backup/mon.day.year This is approximately 102G of data. Thanks for any suggestions. Jerry

sub-optimal ZFS performance
Hello, ZFS is behaving strange on a OSOL laptop, your thoughts are welcome. I am running OSOL on my laptop, currently b124 and i found that the performance of ZFS is not optimal in all situations. If i check the how much space the package cache for pkg(1) uses, it takes a bit longer on this host than on comparable machine to which i transferred all the data. user at host:/var/pkg$ time

zfs send/receive : panic and reboot
<copied from opensolaris-dicuss as this probably belongs here.> I kept on trying to migrate my pool with children (see previous threads) and had the (bad) idea to try the -d option on the receive part. The system reboots immediately. Here is the log in /var/adm/messages Feb 8 16:07:09 amber unix: [ID 836849 kern.notice] Feb 8 16:07:09 amber ^Mpanic[cpu1]/thread=ffffff014ba86e40: Feb 8
