BAD performance with SAMB on aix
Hello,
I have 8 Samba servers with 300 clients here running on Sun and Linux
machines with GREAT performance. Now in one departement i installed
samba 2.0.6 on one 40K$ IBM F50 with AIX 4.3.2, 2xCPU, 256MB RAM,
100FDX, extern RAID 5 Tower . Performance is really very, very BAD. I
tried already everything, but this IBM box with samba is just very SLOW.
Browsing through directories, logging, copying - it all takes a very
long time. The same client connected to Sun+Samba or Linux+Samba in the
same network is incred...

single stream performance issue, Win2K, WinXP, Samba 3.2.5-4lenny7 (Debian Lenny)
Hello fellow Samba users and devs. This is my first post. I've searched
documentation far and wide for Windows, Linux, and Samba, and have not been able
to shed any light on this issue.
I can't get more than 8MB/s during a single file copy stream out of my Samba
server over my 100FDX switched network either from Win2K or WinXP (I don't have
a *nix client to test with). The network is idle during testing. Via FTP on
these Win machines to/from the same filesystem (100GB XFS) as the Samba share I
consistently get just a shade over 11MB/s. However, if I launch two
simultaneo...

First time Dovecot user, really impressed so far. What is best IMAP enabled webmail package to go with Dovecot?
...vecot a couple of days ago
for the first time, Debian Lenny Dovecot v1.0.15-2.3. So far I'm pretty
impressed. I'm using mbox format with Dovecot auto-deciding to place mail in
user home directories, which is great. It works very well with the Win32
Thunderbird 3 client over a small basic 100FDX switched net. I've got one list
mail folder with 10,600 messages and server side body searching that folder via
T-Bird is very quick, on the order of 5 seconds. It would probably be quicker
if Dovecot threaded the search to use both CPUs, but pegging just the one CPU
the search is still very...

performance transfer (samba VS ftp)
Hi folks :-)
situation:
debian stable (samba version 2:3.2.5-4lenny9)
from clients by ftp the transfer of huge file is about 10/11Mb/s (with an
ethernet 10/100)
by samba came 5/6Mb/s
is it correct?
In smb.conf I don't have any "strange"options:

Client link utilization
Hello everybody!
This is probably going to be a classic question but I cannot find a
decent answer on net.
I have samba server set up and the following things work flawlessly:
- iperf shows 92% link utilization
- FTP/SCP/HTTP transfers work in 10MB/s range.
However, when I mount samba share with linux client (mount.cifs) the
link utilization cannot bypass cca 33%. Transfer speeds constantly
