firewall and * suggestions
Hi,
I am going to set up an office of 30 employees and since it's the first
time I thought I will ask for suggestions (trying to make a CentOS base
office :) ). I was planning to re use an old Compaq LPr PII 450, sw
mirrored scsi 10000rpm disks, 448Mb RAM, to build a CentOS based
firewall and I was wondering if this hardware would be enough to serve
30 clients (I already have a centos firewall serving 8 users on a PC
celeron 1,3Ghz machine and top shows average load 0.00).
The other service they'll need is filesharing, which...

Very slow disk I/O
...ystem on a single 2TB
drive? I'm going to guess thats a desktop grade SATA disk spinning at
most at 7200rpm (many are slower, 'green' disks are often 5400rpm).
what sort of workload are you running? our high disk IO servers,
doing things like transactional databases, have many 10000rpm or 15000
rpm drives on a SAS2 raid card with 1GB or 2GB of write-back-cache
(battery or flash backed).

Very slow disk I/O
Hi Users
I am using RHEL 6.5 on my server.
From top command i can see that the processors in my server are
spending a lot of time on wait for I/O.
I can see high percentage in terms of 30-50% on "wa" time.
Here is the df output about the disk space in my system:

how to manage Digium TDM04B outgoing calls correctly
...FXS ports to
connect Fax machines) but with all the problems people seems to have
with these cards I'm not sure anymore.
Here's some specs of my server if that help answer the question :
Motherboard Tyan S2875ANRF with dual opteron processors, 1GB RAM, dual
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10000rpm running Fedora Core 3 AMD 64bits
version. The motherboard comes with 5 PCI and 1 AGP slots so I would
fill up all the slots with the cards. The server is an Antec 3U case
with a 550W Power Supply.
So if you think the server can handle 5 TDM400P cards let me know. If
not what FXOs device I shou...

Very slow disk I/O
...d hence i am seeing
slowness in it when using the top command. We basically run VMs on the
RHEL 6.5 host. Our target is to house 5-6 application VMs on this host
and ship this as a product on a rack server.

RAID 5 vs. RAID 10
Hi,
I am looking into purchasing a new server. This server will be
mission-critical.
I have read and somewhat understood the theories behind RAIDs 0, 1, 5, 10 &
JBOD. However, I would like to get some feedback from those who have
experience in implementing and recovering from a HDD failure using RAID.
Hardware specs include:-
Dual Xeon 3.2 GHz
2 GB RAM

unofficial Survey about your Dovecot server :) to compare with my own server setup...
Hi Borthers/Sisters
Thanks for all the developer(s) and for all the hard work spent on build
this great piece of software! I loved Dovecot since it is really easy to
set up and really fast but I am really new to it (only 2 weeks and
half). Right now, our server configuration is:
Server: Apple Xserve G5 dual
RAM: 4GB
Number of Users: ~ 150 IMAP only users
Authentication: LDAP
Mailboxes sizes:
