creating a new variable.
...I create a variable for Russia? Once I get one, I know I will get the others. Any direction would be very helpful: a link, command, etc. Thanks in advance. ~Nicole Ford Ph.D. student Graduate Assistant/ Instructor University of South Florida Government and International Affairs office: SOC 012M

lm regression query
Hello: I have a 4-column dataset: Crime, Education, Urbanization, Age. I want to construct a multiple linear regression to find the effect of Education, Urbanization, and Age on Crime" lm(Crime ~ Education + Urbanization + Age) If I use + in above statement, does it mean it will build a model to find the relationship between Crime and Education when Urbanization and Age are held constant?

Efficient way to perform linear regressions
Hi All, I have millions of regression lines to fit. So I am looking for the most efficient approach in R. Details: I have a large desing matrix X. The dimension is n by p. Each time when fitting the model, select rows from this matrix X and form a new design matrix, called X_current. There is another binary matrix M, with dim m by n, and each row is a 1*n vector. It helps to determin X_current.

Help xyplot
Hi Mackay and anybody (a) Is it possible to select randomly (let say five grids) and plot? (b) Is it possible to plot five nearest grid in one figure? The original question and improved codes: #I am ploting gridded time series data. I would like the actual lat #and lon value appear on the graph-if possible inside the graph as #numbers. If there is also more elegant ways to plot the graphs I

bayesian HLM random effects
Hello, all. I've been working on this for sometime and was almost at the end/ last chunk of code i would need.... When I received an error. Rather than go to bed and think about it in the morning, I messed with my data and now I am not getting anything. I was up until 4am trying to fix this. Zip files of my data are attached (the data which ends in 'a' matches with wvsA and the
