PXE won't boot a local kernel

PXE looping on localboot
I have seen posts about this problem, but have had trouble finding how/if it was resolved. I am trying to upgrade from syslinux-3.11 to syslinux-3.86 on RHEL5. On 3.86, when it performs a local boot from hard disk, it just keeps looping back into PXE boot again instead of booting from the hard disk. Group membership
I am using Samba PDC with OpenLDAP2 and smbldap-tools. As part of my logon.bat, I call a script called ifmember.exe. This script can list out the groups a user is a member of. It is reporting that my root user is a member of the group 'engr.' I don't know if this is a bug with ifmember.exe or if it's an issue in Samba or in LDAP. Here is some relevant data:

rpcclient problem
i can use the smbclient -L just fine to get a list of shares off my NT4 (Alpha processor) server. My problem lies with rpcclient. It lets me login but then samtest gives the following error: smb: \> samtest samtest SAM Encryption Test SAMR_R_UNKNOWN_38: Unknown NT error smb: \> all i need to be able to do is change the nt password, but the ntpass command gives the same error. any ideas
