R-beta: locfit package.
I was wondering if someone could help me with a problem getting locfit running.
I am running Digital Unix 3.2D on an alphastation, with R 0.61.1
I downloaded the CRAN distribution of locfit. I had no problems installing it
with R INSTALL (I installed it into my library rather than the default base
library; the output is attached at the end of this email message).
I then tried to test it with the

Hi,
I've included Guido Masarotto's port of R 0.61.1 to MS Windows 95/NT
in $CRAN/bin/ms-windows-32 ... you can find both the sources and
binaries there.
I include Guido's README below.
Thanks again to Guido for making this port available!

R-0.61.1 compiled with egcs-mingw32
I have made available the work of the last weekend that I mentioned
in my previous messages on ftp://sirio.stat.unipd.it/pub/R.
Many thanks to Peter D. and Ross I. for their suggestions.
If you think that the work is of some interest, I can upload it
to CRAN.

R-beta: R 0.61.1 model.matrix(), etc.
1. THANK YOU! to all who make R possible. It is a real joy to use.
2. The following may or may not be (minor) bugs, but I thought I'd mention
them anyway:
(a) model.matrix() seems unduly finicky: it seems to accept only "simple"
variable names (x1, but not, say, dframe$x1 or I(x1^2), for example) in
its argument. model.frame(), however, has no problem with these.
(b) If A is a

R-beta: 0.61.1 "if else" parse bug?
I was playing with porting "Hmisc" S-Lib. I am getting parse errors for:
if (xxx) yyyy;else zzzz
I have to break this into:
if(xxx) yyyy
else zzzz
Is this a known feature?
TIA

fairly trivial bug in box(): 0.61.1
box() doesn't appear to do anything with the "col=" parameter (it does
use "lwd=" correctly).
I may fix this if I get around to it, for now I'll probably hack
PostScript.
(Thanks, everyone, for all the work on R: I look forward to the spiffy
graphics once the "new and interesting bugs" are somewhat tamed ...)

R-beta: trouble compiling 0.62.3 on SunOS 4.1.4: lgamma conflicts
I've recently tried to get 0.62.3 up on our Suns (4.1.4, using gcc; I'm
also having trouble with a Solaris 2.6 compile but I haven't given up hope
on that one yet) -- the last compile I did was 0.61.1, which worked
smoothly.
Running
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apps/R/R-0.62.3 [--with-g77]
(tried both with and without g77, eventually get to the same place),
I get a conflict

R-beta: R-0.62.1 under Digital Unix
I am grateful for the advice of Douglas Bates on my earlier problem in making
R-0.62.1, but I'm afraid I'm still having problems....
I have been installing the various updates to R for quite some time on my
alpha, and it is only now that I have been having really severe problems.
The three or 4 versions before 0.61.1 installed without error. For 0.61.1 I
needed to install GNU make.

R-beta: R with gnuwin32
I have been using R under Linux for more than a year and
I think that it is great.
Last week, I downloaded the binary Ms Windows version. I wanted
to test it for my students. Our labs are under Bill Gates.
I am not happy but I can do nothing.
R worked. But, I could not use the dyn.load command
with some dll built with one of the ports of
gcc for windows 95/nt (I used the ecgs-mingw32 ports

R-beta: survival4
Hmm... I have the same problem on hpux10.20. I put the additional libs into a
subdir called contrib, and R INSTALL from there. I have R-0.61.1 Alpha Dec21
1997. Without restored data they work OK.

I've just got a new workstation with Solaris 5.6 and seem to be having some R

problem I would appreciate suggestions. Following is output from make at the

R-beta: R-0.61.2 released
R-0.61.2.tgz is now available from the Auckland FTP site, from where
it should spread to the CRAN sites during the next day or two. Unless
you're in a big hurry or actually living in New Zealand, please don't
get it from Auckland.
There is also an R-0.61.1-0.61.2.diff.gz which can be used to patch an
existing R-0.61.1. Instructions for patching are in the VERSION file
in same directory.
