subsetting levels of a vector
Hi, I need to subset different levels of vector in a dataset to create a new dataframe that contains only these. These observations are not numerical, so I can't use the subset() function (at least this is the response I get from R). Suppose the dataframe looks like this:   ParticipID    ERP   Electrode 1         s1  0.0370       FP1 2         s2 35.0654       FP2 3         s3

hep on arithmetic covariance conversion to log-covariance
Dear All,   is there a function in R that would help me convert a covariance matrix built based on arithmetic returns to a covariance matrix from log-returns?   As an example of the means and covariance from arithmetic:   mu <-c(0.094,0.006,1.337,1.046,0.263) sigma

Problems with ecodist
Dear Dr.Goslee and anyone may intrested in matrix manipulate, I am using your ecodist to do mantel and partial mantel test, I have locality data and shape variation data, and the two distance matrixs are given as belowings. When I run the analysis, it is always report that the matrix is not square, but I didn't know what's wrong with my data. Would you please help me on this. I am quite

use loop or use apply?
Hi, I have two matrices, A (axd) and B (bxd). I want to get another matrix C (axb) such that, C[i,j] is the Euclidean distance between the ith row of A and jth row of B. In general, I can say that C[i,j] = some.function (A[i,], B[j,]). What is the best method for doing so? (assume a < b) I have been doing some exploration myself: Consider the following function: get.f, in which,

Set axis limits in mixtools plot
Hello, Can the x and y axis limits be specified in a density plot with the mixtools package for a finite mixture model? Uncommenting the xlim2/ ylim2 lines in the plot command below generates 'not a graphical parameter' warnings (and does not change the axis settings), and uncommenting the xlim/ylim lines generates a 'formal argument "ylim" matched by multiple actual

multivariate lognormal distribution simulation in compositions
Dear All,   thanks to Berend, my question posted yesturday was solved succesfully here: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/hep-on-arithmetic-covariance-conversion-to-log-covariance-td4646068.html . I posted the question with the assumption of using the results with rlnorm.rplus() from compositions. Unfortunatelly, I am not getting reasonable enough outcome. Am I applying the results wrongfully? For some reason that I have not yet been able to figure out, these tests run significantly more slowly when I run them during the daytime, which I did for that run. I checked a few of the worst regressions reported here and they all recovered in subsequent

Extreme value distributions (Long.)
This may not actually be an R/Splus problem, but it started off that way ..... ===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+=== Executive summary: ================== Simulations involving extreme value distributions seem to ``work'' when the underlying distribution is exponential(1) or exponential(2) == chi-squared_2, but NOT when the underlying distribution is

MMX IDCT for theora-exp
Hello, I'm attaching IDCT MMX patch. I reused IDCT from theora-a3-MMXd.zip. It should work on 64bit X86 platform too. Here is most used functions when playing video with jet aircrafts (gripen) Ogg logical stream 310b2968 is Theora 720x480 29.97 fps video Encoded frame content is 720x480 with 0x0 offset I can play this video with like 200-300 frame drops on Athlon XP 1700+ CPU load (with

[LLVMdev] 2.1 Pre-Release Available (testers needed)
LLVMers, The 2.1 pre-release (version 1) is available for testing: http://llvm.org/prereleases/2.1/version1/ I'm looking for members of the LLVM community to test the 2.1 release. There are 2 ways you can help: 1) Download llvm-2.1, llvm-test-2.1, and the appropriate llvm-gcc4.0 binary. Run "make check" and the full llvm-test suite (make TEST=nightly report). 2) Download
