seeking advice for manipulating matrices to find the difference
I have two matrices (see example below) and I want the differences for the
matching row numbers, but the row numbers are not identical in the two
matrices. There are probably many ways to do this. Anyone know of any easy
way to do this? I could loop over them, but you know what they say about for
loops... Thanks, Roger

Interaction term in multiple regression
Hello All, Thank you for taking my question. I am looking for
information on how R handles interaction terms in a multiple regression
using the ?lm? command. I originally noticed something was unusual
when my R output did not match the output from JMP for an identical
test run previously. Both programs give identical results for the main
test and if the models do not contain the interaction

metafor - interpretion of QM in mixed-effects model with factor moderator
Hi,
I'm using metafor to perform a mixed-effects meta-analysis. I'd like to
test whether the effect is different for animals and plants/whether "group"
(animal/plant) influences the effect size, but am having trouble
interpreting the results I get. I've read previous posts about QM in
metafor, but I'm still a bit confused. I've dummy-coded the factors:

Hi, I'm sure this is simple, but I haven't been able to find this in TFM,

error using predict() / "fRegression"-package
Hello!
I'm puzzled by the following problem. It occurs while trying to predict
responses in a test-dataset using a linear model fitted with regFit from
the rMetrics "fRegression"-package.
All goes well when I call "predict" using the training dataset. However,
a call using the test-dataset retuns an error message - telling me that
the latter dataset provides variables

Multiple comparisons with a mixed effects model
Hello,
I have used R in the past to conduct multiple comparisons on standard linear models, but am a bit confused as to how to go about doing it with a mixed effects model.
I am conducting a bioindication study using carabid beetles in which I have four treatment types (forest harvest types with varying levels of canopy structure retention), and am using canopy closure percent as a covariate in

: GLIM PROBLEMS
Hi all
I have another GLIM question.
I have been using R as well as Genstat (version 6) in order to fit
GLIM models to the data (displayed below).
The same models are fitted but the answers supplied by the two
packages are not the same.
Why? Can anyone help?
A discription of the data and the type of model/s fitted can be found
below.
Regards
Allan

Initial values of the parameters of a garch-Model
Dear all,
I'm using R 2.8.1 under Windows Vista on a dual core 2,4 GhZ with 4 GB
of RAM.
I'm trying to reproduce a result out of "Analysis of Financial Time
Series" by Ruey Tsay.
In R I'm using the fGarch library.
After fitting a ar(3)-garch(1,1)-model
> model<-garchFit(~arma(3,0)+garch(1,1), analyse)
I'm saving the results via

mixed-effects model using lmer
Hello R-users,
I have been trying to fit what I think is a simple mixed-effects model using lmer (from lme4), but I've run into some difficulty that I have not been able to resolve using the existing archives or Pinheiro and Bates (2000).
I am measuring populations (of birds) which change with time at a number of different sites. These sites are grouped into regions. Sites are not measured

Garch Warning
Dear all R-users,
I wanted to fit a Garch(1,1) model to a dataset by:
>garch1 = garch(na.omit(dat))
But I got a warning message while executing, which is:
>Warning message:
>NaNs produced in: sqrt(pred$e)
The garch parameters that I got are:
> garch1
Call:
garch(x = na.omit(dat))

iphone connection problem
Hi, I recently changed from uw imap to dovecot on the sound recommendation of a friend and have mostly succeeded in getting all of my clients up and running, but am really stuck with the iPhone which is failing to make connections. I run certificates on all of my clients and thunderbird happily connects both locally and remotely. I installed the certificate on the iPhone after great pain (pk12

Are these 225 compile time regressions real? It sure looks bad!
Ciao, Duncan.

[LLVMdev] 2.1 Pre-Release Available (testers needed)
LLVMers,
The 2.1 pre-release (version 1) is available for testing:
http://llvm.org/prereleases/2.1/version1/
I'm looking for members of the LLVM community to test the 2.1
release. There are 2 ways you can help:
1) Download llvm-2.1, llvm-test-2.1, and the appropriate llvm-gcc4.0
binary. Run "make check" and the full llvm-test suite (make
TEST=nightly report).
2) Download
