outlining (highlighting) pixels in ggplot2
Using the small reproducible example below, I'd like to know if one can
somehow use the matrix "sig" (defined below) to add a black outline (with
lwd=2) to all pixels with a corresponding value of 1 in the matrix 'sig'?
So for example, in the ggplot2 plot below, the pixel located at [1,3] would
be outlined by a black square since the value at sig[1,3] == 1. This is my

outlining (highlighting) pixels in ggplot2
Hi Eric,
you can use an annotate-layer, eg
ind<-which(sig>0,arr.ind = T)
ggplot(m1.melted, aes(x = Month, y = Site, fill = Concentration), autoscale
= FALSE, zmin = -1 * zmax1, zmax = zmax1) +
geom_tile() +
coord_equal() +

mid = "white",
high = "darkblue",

Group several variables and apply a function to the group
Dear R-experts,
I am struggling with the following problem, and I am looking for advice
from more experienced R-users: I have a data frame with 2 identifying
variables (comn and mi), and an output variable (x). comn is a variable for
a company and mi is a variable for a month.
comn<-c("abc", "abc", "abc", "abc", "abc", "abc",

[LLVMdev] Exception handling slowdown?
Did something change with exception handling recently? A bunch of lit bots are
showing slower compile times for many tests.
Ciao, Duncan.

[LLVMdev] Exception handling slowdown?
Nothing that I'm aware of has changed with EH. Is it possible to bisect the problem?

Select part of character row name in a data frame
Dear R contributors,
I have a problem in selecting in an efficient way, rows of a data frame according to a condition,
which is a part of a row name of the table.
The data frame is made of 64 rows and 2 columns, but the row names are very long but I need to select them according to a small part of it and perform calculations on the subsets.
This is the example:

Hi Bill,

I don't see any relevant LLVM changes, so I guess clang C++ compilation slowed
down due to some clang changes. I'm not going to investigate this.
Ciao, Duncan.

VoIP sound quality : highroad sound
Hello,
what could be causing the issue of poor sound quality ? Some calls,
certainly not all of them, sound like if the caller is standing next to
a very busy road with lots of cars passing.
To be clear : the person calling is not standing next to a highway.
But there seems to be a noise "on the line" of busy highroad that makes
that the caller can not be understood.

[LLVMdev] 2.2 Prerelease available for testing
LLVMers,
The 2.2 prerelease is now available for testing:
http://llvm.org/prereleases/2.2/
If anyone can help test this release, I ask that you do the following:
1) Build llvm and llvm-gcc (or use a binary). You may build release
(default) or debug. You may pick llvm-gcc-4.0, llvm-gcc-4.2, or both.
2) Run 'make check'.
3) In llvm-test, run 'make TEST=nightly report'.

Initial values of the parameters of a garch-Model
Dear all,
I'm using R 2.8.1 under Windows Vista on a dual core 2,4 GhZ with 4 GB
of RAM.
I'm trying to reproduce a result out of "Analysis of Financial Time
Series" by Ruey Tsay.
In R I'm using the fGarch library.
After fitting a ar(3)-garch(1,1)-model

qemu -display sdl,gl=on also eats CPU
I was testing Ilia's patches for ddx, and while they definitely helped for Xorg itself,
qemu still eats a lot of CPU if launched like this
qemu-system-x86_64 -cdrom ~/Downloads/ISO/slax-English-US-7.0.8-x86_64.iso -m 1G -display sdl,gl=on -enable-kvm
and left for few hours.

Great difference for piecewise linear function between R and SAS
Dear Rusers,
I am now using R and SAS to fit the piecewise linear functions, and what
surprised me is that they have a great differrent result. See below.
#R code--Knots for distance are 16.13 and 24, respectively, and Knots for y
are -0.4357 and -0.3202
m.glm<-glm(mark~x+poly(elevation,2)+bs(distance,degree=1,knots=c(16.13,24))
+bs(y,degree=1,knots=c(-0.4357,-0.3202

R and S-Plus got the different results of principal component analysis from SAS, why?
Dear Rusers,
I have met a difficult problem on explaining the differences of principal
component analysis(PCA) between R,S-PLUS and SAS/STATA/SPSS, which wasn't
met before.
Althought they have got the same eigenvalues, their coeffiecients were
different.
First, I list my results from R,S-PLUS and SAS/STATA/SPSS, and then show
the original dataset, hoping sb. to try and explain it.
