Hi R users, I am using the optim funciton to maximize a log likelihood function. cannot connect without user/pass on Windows 10
Hi, A number of students are unable to connect to our print server from their Windows 10 client laptop without entering a user/pass. More precisely: If you try to connect manually to \\IP it says "Username or password incorrect" and prompts to enter a username/password. Despite the server setting to map all users to guest (see further down). I did a packet dump and the client pc

Poor creat/delete files performance
Hi, We did some performance test and found the create/delete files performance of btrfs is very poor. The test is that we create 50000 files and measure the file-create time first, and then delete these 50000 files and measure the file-delete time. (The attached file is the reproduce program) The result is following: (Unit: second) Create file performance BtrFS Ext4 Total times:

Samba 4 slow write
Hi Jones, many thanks again four your help and your time. Thanks for the patch too - I'll check it up. On my Ubuntu, there is a Samba 4.1.6. I'll install the samba source package, and will try to apply the patch, then - I hope - the package will be compiled as well. I'll notify to you about the result. (First, I need to upgrade that server.) Thanks again, Ervin On Thu, Apr

More * weirdness
Well I am about to reserve a small padded room so I can bounce off the walls without inflicting tooo much damage... Nothing is making sense at this point. I tried several releases last night before settling on the latest CVS (seemed to work the best). Asterisk was running GREAT for the first few hours. Now since around 10AM EST SIP can't register and incoming calls are rejected with "all

[EXTERNAL] SNMP shutdown timing out
Is NUT using the same SNMP v3 user as your SNMP Set or a different one? If it is a different one (e.g. an SNMP v1 or v2c string) does that user / community string have read/write access? tcpdump to listen for packets across UDP 161 is one way to check what is actually being sent. Samba 4 slow write
Dear Samba users, here is an Ubuntu 14.04, with Samba 4 (4.1.6), and LDAP (slapd 2.4.31). The config came from a previous system (Debian Squeezy), which had been crashed (HW error - on this new machine, I've put Ubuntu). So, as I wrote, the smb.conf and LDAP database was copied from the backup from the old system - but it works as well. Only one thing what's very annoying. The Samba is

Performance of madvise / msync
Hi, I'm using py-rrdtool 0.2.1 with rrdtool 1.3.0 under 7.0-STABLE, and there's a couple of things about this new version of rrdtool that hurt performance under FreeBSD, but apparently help on whatever they tested on. For every update, the database file is opened, mapped into memory, madvise() is called, contents are modified, msync() is called, and the file is unmapped and closed:

Well, now that the `subdriver` option got added to `usbhid-ups` too, you can at least try that (by building again the current master). See command-line help for the subdrivers it would currently recognize, and copy e.g. the first word as the matching option, e.g.: ./drivers/usbhid-ups -DDDDDD -d1 -s test -x port=auto -x vendorid=... -x productid=... -x subdriver=... and try to lockpick your

sync slowness. ext3 on VIA vt82c686b
When I copy a file(13Megs) from /home/ to /tmp/, sync takes almost 2 minutes. When I copy the same file to /usr/local/, sync returns almost right away. Both filesystems are ext3 and are on the same harddrive. When sync is running, the harddrive light stays on but I don't hear it doing anything. dmesg doesn't show any errors either. Below is the `time` output for each command. If you
