Sometimes we can't upgrade servers as soon as we?d like due to application support requirements In our case we will need to keep these RH7 servers for another 6 months at least Anyway the change to idmap backend from 'ad' to 'sss' seems to to be working for us Thanks, Rob -----Original Message----- From: samba <samba-bounces at lists.samba.org> On Behalf Of Rowland Penny via samba Sent: Thursday, August 7, 2025 2:03 PM To: samba at lists.samba.org Cc: Rowland Penny <rpenny at samba.org> Subject: Re: [Samba] Not converting SID to UID On Thu, 7 Aug 2025 17:40:23 +0000 "Vaughan, Robert J via samba" <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote:> We faced this and found Red Hat has a Samba patch for RHEL version 8 > and up > > There is no plan to patch 7 afaik > > We changed our RH7 Samba servers to use sss as a backend for winbind > and it seems to be working >RHEL 7 went EOL over 12 months ago, so it is probably time to upgrade and while you can get sss to work as the backend, it isn't supported by Samba, how could it be, it isn't produced by Samba. Rowland Robert - Thank you for that! Could be our backup plan. Rowland - Does samba 4.21.7 contain a fix? And, yes we are aware that RHEL/CentOS 7 are obsolete. Of course upgrading several thousand severs is not a trivial task :/ This email and any attachments may contain information that is confidential and/or privileged for the sole use of the intended recipient.
