samba - Dec 2023 - Rename workgroup in an AD environment?

Hello all. Does the "WORKGROUP = " line in smb.conf play any role in
an
AD environment? I have a few Samba 4.x AD controllers where the 
workgroup is not aligned with the "REALM = " setting. In an ideal
world
I would prefer them to be:

WORKGROUP = SAMDOMAIN
REALM = SAMDOMAIN.ORG.SOMETHING

I would like to change the WORKGROUP setting, but leave the REALM 
setting as is.

This is not a pressing need - so if you tell me that it is a headache 
and to go away and leave you all alone, I will happily do that :) But 
for my own technical knowledge, I would like to know the answer if 
anyone here knows.

Whilst the workgroup name (aka NetBIOS domain name or pre-Windows 2000
name) is normally set to the left hand part of the kerberos domain name
(which is the dns domain name in capitals), it doesn't have to be, it
can be anything (e.g. it could be 'FRED')

I would leave it as it is, whilst it is probably possible to change it,
it isn't worth the pain, I would just live with it.
