I would have expected between the two (as a minimum):

./configure
make
make install

Have you actually downloaded the latest Samba tarball and compiled it ?

  python3-dnspython python-gpgme python3-gpgme python-markdown
python3-markdown \
  python3-dev xsltproc zlib1g-dev liblmdb-dev lmdb-utils


I did this first:

But I got the same error.  I didn't think I would need to compile Samba
when using the package installer.  So I ran the bootstrap script and that's
what you're seeing there.
